Two suspects in Orlando, Florida, were arrested following a traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase. Allegedly, one of them, a passenger in the car, jumped into the driver’s seat mid-surrender and triggered a pursuit. which ended in a collision with an Amazon truck.
As reported by WESH, citing the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), the incident occurred on Thursday, June 4. At around 5 p.m., local police observed a vehicle driving near N. Orange Avenue and E. Colonia Drive.
As per the OCSO, the vehicle was linked to a felony in the city of Sanford. A traffic stop was conducted, and the vehicle was stopped.
The driver, then, began surrendering to the authorities. However, as this occurred, the vehicle’s passenger allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat.
First Crash, Altercation
The passenger-turned-driver allegedly sped away, evading the police. As per the OCSO, multiple vehicles were struck as a result.
At one point, the suspect allegedly crashed the car, a red Kia, into another vehicle. According to the Sanford Police Department (SPD), this crash appeared to be intentional.
The SPD further detailed that the suspect had engaged in a physical altercation with the victim. During this scuffle, the suspect is accused of removing items from the victim’s vehicle.
Second Crash, Arrest
The suspect would then jump back into the red Kia and flee the crash scene, authorities said. This wouldn’t last long, though, as the suspect would soon ditch the Kia to flee on foot.
Reportedly, in downtown Orlando, an Amazon delivery truck was struck on the side by another vehicle and needed to be towed. Right next to the truck, as seen in footage shared by WESH, was the red Kia mentioned above.
According to the police, the suspect left the vehicle and fled the scene. Moments later, law enforcement agents responded to the scene.
Witness Reactions, Suspect Arrested
WESH talked with James, a witness to the scene, who said that police officers were yelling at the residents, asking for information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts. According to him, they were “coming from every direction with guns, tasers, everything pulled.”
Eventually, the suspect was found and placed under arrest. Another witness saw the arrest, saying that there were cops and firefighters everywhere, adding, “Didn’t think my day would go like this, but every day is different.”
The identities of both suspects have yet ot be released by the OCSO. They are now facing multiple felony charges, although these are also unknown.
