A Saturday morning bike ride in South Florida took a turn when the driver of a black SUV began honking at two cyclists traveling down the same road, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the driver then swerved toward the cyclists, forcing one rider off the roadway before the SUV struck the other.
The encounter did not end with the collision. According to an arrest report, the driver pulled out a gun and fired a round in the direction of the cyclist he had struck.
The driver, identified as 40-year-old Raimiero Rios of Homestead, later surrendered and was arrested on three felony charges. The encounter was also captured on video.

The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, near Southwest 87th Avenue and Southwest 184th Street in Cutler Bay, according to the arrest report described by NBC 6.
Rios was driving south on Southwest 87th Avenue while the two cyclists were traveling in the same direction, deputies said.
Video of the encounter begins with the black SUV behind the riders as its horn sounds repeatedly. The SUV moves toward the cyclists, and the riders react as the space between them and the vehicle disappears.
According to the arrest report, Rios swerved toward the cyclists and forced one of them off the roadway. CBS News Miami reported that rider was 75 years old.
Deputies said the SUV then struck the second cyclist.
After the collision, the arrest report says Rios produced a firearm and fired one round in the direction of that cyclist.
Deputies responding to the scene found a bullet hole in the ground, according to Local 10. No injuries were reported.
Monday Night
Rios left the area before deputies arrived, according to Local 10.
Two days later, at approximately 10:34 p.m. Monday, Rios voluntarily surrendered at the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office South District Station. He was taken into custody and transported to the agency’s Cutler Bay Municipal District Station.
CBS News Miami reported that Rios invoked his right to remain silent when deputies attempted to question him.
Rios was arrested on one count each of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
Out On Bond
Rios appeared in bond court Tuesday, where Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer found probable cause on the charges and set his total bond at $15,000, according to CBS News Miami.
Glazer also ordered Rios to have no direct or indirect contact with the victims and appointed a public defender.
Rios was initially held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation maintains the county’s inmate-search system, and Local 10 subsequently reported that Rios posted the $15,000 bond.
CBS News Miami spoke with both cyclists after the arrest. Both said they were OK but declined an on-camera interview, saying detectives had advised them not to discuss the case.
