A man in Hillsborough County, Florida, was arrested after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop. After ditching his motorcycle, police said, the man ran into a nearby pond, putting an end to the chase.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the incident occurred on May 29, 2026. At around 12:01 a.m., deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a man riding a motorcycle on Gibsonton Drive.

The man, later identified as 36-year-old Jeremy Leaf, allegedly refused to stop. Furthermore, he is accused of leading deputies on an impromptu chase.

The HCSO then made use of its Aviation Unit to track down Leaf. Footage of the chase was shared online.

Footage Shared

As seen in the Aviation Unit footage, Leaf is seen driving his motorcycle. He is seen making a right southbound on South Pebble Beach Boulevard.

The clip cuts to Leaf allegedly pulling into a residence located on Wolf Laurel Drive. He is seen hiding the bike in the residence, and then proceeds to flee on foot.

The man then chooses to run southbound, as shown in the HCSO clip. Eventually, he came across a retention pond nearby, diving into the waters, perhaps unintentionally.

Man Arrested, Charged

The footage shows Leaf staying at the same spot in the pond waters. Deputies eventually arrived, and he crawled out of the water.

Leaf is then shown being arrested by responding deputies. One of them is heard saying, “Come on, bro. You’re better than that. Come on, man.” Meanwhile, the suspect is heard making unintelligible sounds.

Jeremy Leaf is charged wtih driving while license revoked (habitual offender), and resisting an officer without violence. If convicted, he could spend up to 5 years in state prison, have his license revoked for a 5-year period, and be ordered to pay $5,000 in fines, among other things.

Internet Reacts

With Leaf sitting behind bars, many users decided to poke fun at him after seeing the footage attached above. According to them, a much more dramatic ending was warranted.

One viewer asked, “Where’s an alligator when you need one?” Another one added, “Did he think that if he got in the water, he wouldn’t be seen like he was in Predator or something?”

Others, meanwhile, wondered why a suspect would ever flee from the HCSO. Routinely, the sheriff’s office shares footage of their chases, which often make use of the Aviation Unit. This leaves suspects with no chance to escape, so they might be better off complying and facing the consequences of their actions.
