There are plenty of road rage stories that end with someone getting arrested, but it’s a little more surprising when the person accused of losing their temper is a corrections deputy. Even more unusual is when the entire encounter is recorded on a phone by the people involved.
A Florida corrections deputy who was accused of confronting two teenagers during an off-duty road rage incident has now learned his sentence. Rather than serving jail time, the deputy will instead spend the next two years on probation after entering a no-contest plea.
The incident drew widespread attention after cell phone video surfaced showing the confrontation between the deputy and the occupants of another vehicle. The footage was later released following his arrest and quickly circulated online.
While the criminal case has now reached its conclusion, questions still remain about the deputy’s future with the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Receives Probation After No-Contest Plea

Fifty-seven-year-old Devin Mills was sentenced on Thursday, July 16, to two years of supervised probation and ordered to pay court costs. The Florida Department of Corrections records indicate his probation is scheduled to expire on July 15, 2028.
This was after he pleaded no contest to a charge of burglary of a conveyance on June 29.
Court documents also state that the probation may automatically terminate after one year if Mills completes all required conditions, which include undergoing a mental health evaluation and any recommended treatment, as well as having no contact with the victims or their families during the probationary period.
Cellphone Video Became Key Evidence in the Case
The case stems from an incident that occurred on Feb. 10, 2025, in the 100 block of Southwest Tulip Boulevard in Port St. Lucie.
Police said Mills was involved in an off-duty road rage confrontation with two 18-year-olds. Cellphone video recorded by the teenagers showed Mills reaching through the open passenger-side window of their vehicle, grabbing one teen’s arm, and taking the cellphone recording the interaction.
The video became a central piece of the investigation and was later released after Mills’ arrest. Although the criminal case has now ended with a probation sentence, the administrative review by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office remains ongoing.
Until that investigation is complete, Mills’ employment status with the agency remains undetermined.
