After a family member discovered a dead man in their California home, a homicide investigation was conducted. The investigation was stretched across multiple counties and ended with three suspects in custody more than a month later.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests of Alfredo Morales Garcia, 38, Federico Farfan Ambriz, 45, and Hector Medina, 37, following an investigation into the September 6, 2026, death at a residence in North Highlands.
The case began early Sunday morning, September 6, when the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call from a residence in the 3700 block of Lenore Way in North Highlands. The caller reported finding an adult male family member deceased inside the home. Deputies responded to the residence and determined that the death was a homicide. Crime scene personnel and homicide detectives were subsequently called to examine the scene.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office described the discovery in its subsequent homicide investigation update, which announced the arrests on October 9. The announcement did not identify the victim or disclose the circumstances surrounding his death

Detectives continued investigating the death over the following weeks. They eventually identified Garcia, Ambriz, and Medina as suspects. The Sheriff’s Office characterized the investigation as extensive but did not describe the evidence that led detectives to the three men.
Arrest warrants were subsequently obtained for each suspect on murder and conspiracy charges. The conspiracy allegations suggest detectives suspected coordinated criminal activity, but the public announcement did not explain what conduct formed the basis of those allegations.
Officials did not disclose whether the three men knew one another, had any relationship with the victim, or were suspected of being present at the residence when the death occurred.
The department also did not identify a suspected motive.
Six Locations Searched
On Thursday, October 8, approximately one month after the death, detectives executed search warrants at six different locations. The operation extended beyond Sacramento County into Modesto and Tulare County, spanning Northern and Central California
The department did not provide individual arrest locations or specify which search warrants were associated with particular suspects. It also did not describe whether detectives recovered weapons, electronic devices, or other evidence during the searches.
Although the department announced that all three suspects had been arrested, the update did not establish their individual suspected roles in the homicide.
Held Without Bail
Following the October 8 operation, Garcia, Ambriz, and Medina were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. The Sheriff’s Office reported that all three were ineligible for bail when it was announced. The murder and conspiracy allegations are not findings of guilt. Each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
As of the department’s October 9 update, all three men remained in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail.
