A stolen pickup truck led law enforcement on a chaotic pursuit across Monroe County on Wednesday. It left behind multiple crashes, several minor injuries, and stunned witnesses who described the ordeal as something straight out of an action movie.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies located a stolen white contractor truck parked at Corbett’s Glen Nature Park in Penfield at approximately 11:24 in the morning. Deputies approached the vehicle and ordered the driver to get out.
Instead, authorities say the suspect sped away in what officials described as a reckless manner, nearly striking multiple deputies in the process. Investigators said the fleeing driver also struck another vehicle and an object inside the park before taking off.

Witnesses Describe Wild Pursuit as ‘Something Out of a Movie’
What began in Penfield quickly escalated into a countywide pursuit. According to Deputy David Marcucci, the chase traveled through the City of Rochester, into Greece, and eventually back into Rochester.
Video shared by local media outlets captured portions of the pursuit as it wound through several busy roadways. Footage obtained by WHEC TV showed police pursuing the pickup, which had its front bumper pretty banged up, as well as the utility bed.
Additional video showed a lengthy line of law enforcement vehicles pursuing the truck from eastbound Brooks Avenue onto northbound Genesee Street. Witness Alex Hunt happened to see part of the pursuit as it passed through the intersection of South Plymouth and Brooks avenues.
“It was definitely a chaotic scene,” Hunt said. “They blew through the red light here, they kind of drifted, skidded through the intersection, I think they were probably driving on in that little turning lane there as well. The police, the police helicopter, various units. It was a crazy scene, but no one really kind of knew what was going on. Everyone just kind of stayed in place and let them do their job.”
Multi-Agency Pursuit Ends After Truck Becomes Disabled
Authorities said the pursuit finally came to an end near Lyell Avenue and Verona Street in Rochester after the stolen truck became disabled. A large number of law enforcement vehicles from multiple agencies quickly surrounded the pickup.
However, officials said the suspect still refused to cooperate. According to Marcucci, the driver continued resisting arrest, forcing deputies to use force to take the suspect into custody.
Investigators said the pursuit resulted in a total of five separate crashes throughout Monroe County. Minor injuries were reported to a deputy, a Sheriff’s Office K-9, and an uninvolved bystander. It was also said that a deputy injured a hand during the suspect’s arrest.

Marcucci acknowledged that vehicle pursuits are inherently dangerous and said deputies continuously evaluate whether continuing a chase remains safe. “Inherently, a pursuit is certainly a risky endeavor,” Marcucci said.
“We’re constantly evaluating as the pursuit’s going on — weather conditions, traffic conditions, vehicle conditions, pedestrian and road conditions, the time of day, and the weather.” He added that deputies have the authority to terminate a pursuit at any point if conditions become too dangerous.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect or announced what charges may be filed.All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
