A DoorDash driver in Roseville, Michigan, was delivering an order when, suddenly, a man allegedly carjacked his vehicle. The deliveryman, seeing his work tool taken away, jumped into the car, although this didn’t last long.
As reported by WXYZ, the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 23. At around 1 p.m., the DoorDash driver, who remains unnamed, was delivering an order near Pinehurst and Biehl.
Anna Weiser, the customer eager to eat her order, suddenly noticed something was going wrong. So did the driver, who noticed someone was allegedly entering his car without his consent.
The individual in question eventually did so and decided to take the vehicle for himself, police said. The DoorDash driver, however, was willing to fight back.
DoorDash Not Willing To Let Go
Anna, left dumbfounded by what she had seen, then watched the delivery driver rush back to his vehicle. While it was moving, the man jumped inside the car.
This wouldn’t last long, as previously stated. The DoorDash driver ended up falling out of the car and onto the ground.
Meanwhile, the new and very much illegal driver allegedly took off with his new prized possession, as seen in the clip attached above. That is, of course, after he crashed through a neighbor’s fence, Roseville police detailed.
Fencer Owner Reacts
The owner of the fence, Lena Andriths, also talked to WXYZ. She found out about the substantial damage to her property when he pulled into her driveway. She immediately called 911.
“Apparently, it was a carjacking gone bad,” the woman said. However, she was glad that the incident, while horrible, didn’t result in a far greater tragedy.
“Thank goodness there were no little kids running around,” Lena added. “Thank goodness no one was walking their dogs down this strip.”
Suspect Found and Arrested
Shortly after the alleged carjacking, the suspect decided to ditch the vehicle altogether, the police said. He would then attempt to make a run for it, to no avail.
In the area near 12 Mile and Utica roads, the suspect was arrested following a very brief foot chase. The man, who has not been identified, will be arraigned on Thursday, June 26. He faces multiple felony charges, including carjacking. According to Michigan law, if convicted, the unnamed man could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Meanwhile, the DoorDash driver, who most definitely was injured as a result of his attempt to regain control of his car, declined medical transport. The current state of his car is unknown, so it is hard to say if he will be able to DoorDash in the short term.
