Dashcam footage can provide some of the most outrageous moments you’ve ever seen. A glance at the r/dashcams subreddit on Reddit shows some incredible moments, such as this one captured at night, which the original poster said explained why they hate driving in the dark.

The footage shows someone driving along at night, with everything looking fairly normal as they make their way along the road. They have their headlights on, the streetlights are on, and nothing appears to be out of the ordinary. That was until they reached an intersection.

That is when the footage took a turn and became alarming. The intersection had traffic lights above, and from the dashcam car we can see that the lights are green. The lights for traffic going the other way on the left and right are red. So that should mean the road is clear.

However, that wasn’t the case. As we enter the intersection, a car suddenly appears from the right and doesn’t stop for the red lights. It ploughs straight through, and that is when the accident happens. That is why the original poster of the video said they don’t like driving at night.

You Don’t Expect a Car To Go Through a Red Light

The dashcam car approaches the lights as normal, and the driver keeps going as the lights were green. There was no reason to expect anything going across the road the other day, given that those lights were red. You shouldn’t have to slow down if the road ahead of you is clear, but in this instance, it ended up in an accident.

The driver of the dashcam car tried to take evasive action but failed to do so. They tried to swerve out of the way and presumably applied the brakes hard too, but it was to no avail. The car coming the other way also seemed totally oblivious to everything going on. They didn’t appear to notice the lights on red and ploughed straight through as if nothing was amiss,

The actual impact was quite severe as well. It pushed the car coming the other way sideways, and both cars quite clearly took a lot of damage in the accident. Any accident like this is going to cause a bit of discussion in the comments, and this really was no exception. Thankfully, in this instance, most people seemed to take sides with the driver of the dashcam car, rather than the one that shot across in front of it.

Some Viewers Couldn’t Believe What They Had Watched

“This your video? Waiting for someone here to ask why you didnt treat the green light as a 4-way stop or something equally ridiculous to blame you for this accident and not the Honda Fit,” said the top commenter. “You should drive defensively too!!!” Hate this sub sometimes in the most ridiculous situations where that proverb doesn’t apply in actuality except by these Monday quarterbacking commenters,” said another. There was very little sympathy for the driver of the other car, which did seem to be a Honda Fit.

One other user pointed out something interesting. “Also, the dash cams always make it look like you have more time to react than reality due to the larger FOV of the camera,” they said. Plus, as viewers, we know that something is about to happen, so we are expecting a car to shoot across the other way, or for something to appear suddenly in front of us. There really was nothing the dashcam driver could do, and they should not have been expected to drive defensively at a light that was green for them.
