A street department worker in St. Louis, Missouri, immediately got into action after she spotted a baby abandoned in the middle of a busy street. She managed to rescue the baby from certain death and is now being hailed as a hero.
As reported by FOX 2 St. Louis, the incident occurred earlier in July 2026. Michelle Jones, an employee with the St. Louis Street Department, was traveling northbound on Goodfellow.
While driving her vehicle, she arrived at a roundabout. There, she noticed something strange: a blue vehicle standing still in the middle of Goodfellow.
Michelle found it odd, and as she approached the car, things took a dangerous turn. The blue vehicle driver stepped out of his car and grabbed a car seat.
Tiny Feet Spotted
The individual, a man later identified as 36-year-old Christopher Pearson, left the car seat right in the middle of the street, police said. Then, as Michelle approached him, he is accused of driving away, leaving the car seat behind.
Tragically, and as much as Michelle wished otherwise, the car seat was not empty. As she got nearby, she spotted some very tiny feet with white socks on them.
The woman had witnessed the affective abandonment of a baby, left to his own luck. Michelle, who is herself a mother, grandmother, and even great-grandmother, decided to step in and protect the little guy at all costs.
Motherly Instincts
Michelle pulled her truck over right next to the car seat and put it in park. He exited her vehicle and stood beside the baby, making sure he was okay. She also called the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, who later arrived at the scene.
“Your motherly instincts kick in,” she said. “I wouldn’t have done anything different but to stop and make sure that baby was safe and placed back home.”
The baby was safe thanks to Michelle. After all, “anyone could have killed” the boy, the woman said
Man Arrested
Meanwhile, Pearson was eventually located and placed under arrest. He is charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest.
If convicted, the man could face up to seven years behind bars. His relationship with the child has not been confirmed by the authorities.
Another baby placed in similar circumstances would have faced an entirely different outcome if it weren’t for Michelle. She doesn’t believe she was in Goodfellow by chance, saying, “I just thank God I was there to save him.”
