The M-Hero 1 is a brutal, military-inspired electric SUV from Dongfeng, delivering over 1,000 horsepower, extreme off-road capability, and a surprisingly luxurious interior packed with quirky design cues. It’s essentially China’s answer to the Hummer EV and Mercedes EQG, but with its own distinctive personality.

If you thought the Rezvani Tank cornered the market on “angry apocalypse SUV that looks like it eats Humvees for breakfast,” China would like a word. Actually, China would like several words, shouted through a megaphone, backed by a spec sheet, and priced tens of thousands of dollars lower. Enter the M-Hero 1, a Chinese-made off-road SUV that feels less like inspiration and more like a full-throated “we can do that too, and cheaper.”

The most interesting aspect of this story is that the very moment you see the M-Hero 1, it triggers the same reaction the Rezvani Tank did when it first rolled into Instagram feeds. Let that sink in. Sharp edges. Slab sides. A stance that suggests it has never seen a speed bump it didn’t want to intimidate. It looks military.

It looks aggressive. It looks like something you would expect to come with optional smoke screen deployment and a villain monologue. And yes, it looks suspiciously familiar.

Rezvani’s Tank, itself based on the Jeep Wrangler platform but pushed to comic-book extremes, has built a cult following by leaning into excess. Armor plating. Run-flat tires. Optional ballistic protection. A cabin that screams “billionaire survivalist starter pack.” The M-Hero 1 appears to take that same design brief and then asks a very Chinese manufacturing question: how do we make this look just as insane, pack it with tech, and sell it for dramatically less?

Design-wise, the parallels are impossible to ignore. The M-Hero 1 wears a similarly upright, blocky silhouette with exaggerated fender flares and a nose that looks engineered to frighten small sedans. The lighting signature is pure sci-fi, with aggressive LED elements that feel lifted straight from the same visual mood board as Rezvani’s Tank. Even the proportions scream “luxury armored offroader,” whether or not you ever plan to see more dirt than a Whole Foods parking lot.

A Hero’s Birth

Dongfeng Motor Corporation, one of China’s largest and most established automakers, is the company behind the M-Hero 1. Its long history spans both civilian and military vehicle production, which gives the brand a unique credibility when it comes to building machines that balance toughness with modern innovation.

To carve out a space in the premium electric off-road segment, Dongfeng created the M-Hero brand as a dedicated division focused on high-performance EVs designed for extreme conditions. The M-Hero 1 itself draws heavily from military-grade off-road platforms, inheriting a rugged DNA that sets it apart from the more polished, urban-focused electric SUVs on the market.

This lineage ensures that the vehicle is not just a luxury statement but also a formidable machine engineered to thrive in demanding environments.

The M-Hero 1 rides on a dedicated electric off-road platform, a foundation specifically engineered to withstand punishing conditions and deliver durability across extreme terrain. At the heart of its mechanical setup is a quad-motor drivetrain, with one motor assigned to each wheel.

This configuration allows for precise torque vectoring, so that power is distributed exactly where it’s needed, which translates into exceptional traction and control even in the most challenging environments. Complementing this is an adaptive suspension system that can adjust its ride height on demand.

Whether the task is crawling over jagged rocks or charging across open desert, the suspension adapts to provide stability, clearance, and comfort, making the M-Hero 1 as capable off-road as it looks.

Where things get really interesting is under the skin. While Rezvani leans heavily on brute-force American theatrics, big engines, dramatic armor options, and bespoke pricing, the M-Hero 1 plays the modern Chinese EV and hybrid card hard.

Depending on configuration, it packs a multi-motor electrified drivetrain with serious output, all-wheel drive, and torque figures that make the Tank’s gas-powered drama feel a little old-school. The M-Hero 1 delivers staggering performance figures that place it firmly in the realm of extreme SUVs. Its total output reaches 800 kilowatts, which translates to roughly 1,088 horsepower, a level of power more commonly associated with high-end supercars than off-road machines.

Torque is equally impressive at 1,032 lb-ft (1,400 newton-meters), and because it comes from electric motors, it is available instantly, giving the vehicle explosive responsiveness in any driving situation. Despite its considerable size and rugged build, its ferocious acceleration rival sports cars in straight-line speed while maintaining control across difficult terrain.

Underpinning this performance is a large-capacity battery pack, though the exact kilowatt-hour figure has not been disclosed. What is clear, however, is that the battery has been engineered not just for raw range but also for endurance, as necessary to ensure the SUV can sustain its immense power delivery during extended off-road adventures without compromising reliability.

A Hero’s Home

Inside the M-Hero 1, the atmosphere shifts dramatically from the aggressive, armored look of its exterior to a cabin that feels refined and indulgent. Exactly like the Rezvani. The interior is spacious, with premium materials and carefully chosen finishes that emphasize comfort and sophistication. It’s a deliberate contrast, designed to remind occupants that this SUV isn’t all about brute force.

Even the smallest details have been engineered to convey a sense of solidity, such as the vault-like sound the doors make when closing, a feature that immediately recalls the reassuring heft of the Mercedes G-Class. Yet the designers didn’t stop at refinement alone; they infused the cabin with playful nods to the vehicle’s military heritage.

The most striking example is the pistol-shaped inner door handles, a quirky and bold touch that reinforces the SUV’s identity as both a high-end machine and a rugged warrior. This blend of elegance, precision, and eccentricity makes the M-Hero ‘s interior as memorable as its performance. Rezvani interiors have always been about exclusivity and shock value. The M-Hero 1 goes for tech overload and perceived value, which is increasingly China’s sweet spot.

The M-Hero 1’s technology suite is designed to match its extreme mechanical capabilities with equally advanced digital systems. At the center of the cabin is a set of large digital displays that serve as the hub for infotainment, offering seamless connectivity and a modern interface that keeps the driver and passengers fully integrated with navigation, entertainment, and vehicle data.

Beyond convenience, the SUV is expected to carry a comprehensive package of driver assistance features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping functions, which enhance safety and ease during long journeys. The real deal, though, are the M-Hero’s specialized systems tailored for off-road dominance.

Torque vectoring software ensures that power is distributed intelligently across all four wheels, while terrain management programs allow the driver to select modes optimized for different environments, from rocky trails to sandy deserts. And the mode of selection is unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Together, these technologies elevate the M-Hero 1 beyond a conventional luxury SUV to a digitally sophisticated machine that thrives in urban and extreme landscapes. And then there’s the price.

A Hero’s Price

This is where things get uncomfortable for Rezvani. The Tank is a low-volume, hand-built status symbol that can quickly climb into six-figure territory before you even start checking the truly wild options. The M-Hero 1 undercuts that philosophy entirely. It delivers the look, the performance, and arguably more modern hardware at a price that makes the Tank feel like an indulgence rather than a flex.

With a starting price around $108,700–$169,990, the M-Hero 1 costs significantly cheaper than the Rezvani Tank (from $175,000, with high-performance versions exceeding $260,000) and the Mercedes EQG (from $162,650 in the U.S. and up to €250,000 in Europe).

The M-Hero 1 enters the market with a relatively aggressive pricing strategy compared to its rivals. Entry-level versions are listed at €93,300, which translates to about $108,700. At the top end, particularly for the quad-motor variant that delivers 1,088 horsepower, the price rises to €169,990, or roughly $185,000.

By contrast, the Rezvani Tank is positioned as a more exclusive and extreme offering. Its base price begins at $175,000, but the cost escalates quickly depending on engine choice.

Bordering on outrageous is the fact that customers can opt for a 500-horsepower V8 at an additional $45,000, a 707-horsepower V8 for $65,000 more, or a 1,000-horsepower supercharged V8 that adds a poverty-inducing $85,000 to the bill. With these upgrades and other customization options, a fully loaded Tank can easily exceed $260,000.

The Mercedes EQG, the electrified version of the iconic G-Class, sits between these two in terms of positioning. In the United States, it starts at $162,650, while European launch editions are priced significantly higher at €250,000. In Australia, the EQG is offered between AUD $249,900 and $299,900 depending on trim level. This pricing reflects Mercedes’ emphasis on heritage, luxury, and prestige rather than raw horsepower alone.

Taken together, the M-Hero 1 offers the most horsepower for the lowest entry price, the Rezvani Tank emphasizes extreme customization and exclusivity at a steep premium, and the Mercedes EQG commands its price through brand prestige and iconic design lineage.

Model Base Price (USD) High-End Price (USD) Power Output Market Position
M-Hero 1 $108,700 ~$185,000 1,088 hp Rugged EV SUV with military DNA
Rezvani Tank $175,000 $260,000+ Up to 1,000 hp Extreme luxury SUV with armor options
Mercedes EQG $162,650 ~$270,000 (Europe) 579 hp Iconic G-Class electrified

This is the part where American might ask the uncomfortable question. What the f**k is going on with China and its habit of copying Western ideas, then refining them into something brutally competitive? The M-Hero 1 does not just mimic the Rezvani Tank’s visual language. It exposes how vulnerable niche luxury manufacturers can be when a well-funded, tech-savvy competitor decides to crash the party.

Whether the M-Hero 1 ever officially reaches US shores is almost beside the point. Its existence alone is the story. It is a rolling reminder that China is no longer just copying for practice. It is copying, improving, and pricing with intent. And if you are Rezvani, that should be a lot scarier than any armored SUV fantasy you have ever sold.
