A 21-year old man from Indiana is facing some pretty hefty charges after he led officers on a high-speed chase that ended up stretching across three counties. What’s even crazier about this story is that not only was he able to reach speeds of 130 MPH, but he even tried to continue getting away after losing two tires.
The actual incident happened on June 22 and ended up involving police officers from a few different agencies, including the Lafayette Police Department and Indiana State Police. According to scanner traffic, the incident began shortly before 10:30 pm near Maple Point Drive in Lafayette.
It was reported that the officers tried to make contact with the driver of a black Cadillac CTS, but the situation escalated too quickly. Scanner traffic indicated that officers were partially inside or holding onto the vehicle when the driver suddenly accelerated and fled the area, allegedly dragging officers as he sped away.
Fortunately, no serious injuries to law enforcement personnel have been reported. However, it does make for a rather interesting story.

According to scanner traffic, the Cadillac sped through the parking lot before jumping a curb and entering U.S. 52. At one point during the pursuit, the driver reportedly traveled in the wrong lane of traffic before correcting and continuing southbound.
As the chase left Lafayette and entered southern Tippecanoe County, speeds reportedly climbed to approximately 102 mph. Law enforcement officials continued pursuing the vehicle south on U.S. 52 as Carter crossed into Clinton County.
Driver Reaches 130 MPH Despite Losing Two Tires
Scanner traffic indicated that the fleeing driver nearly collided with multiple motorists during the chase, placing countless drivers at risk. Then came perhaps the most unbelievable moment of the entire incident.
According to radio traffic, the Cadillac lost two tires near US 52 and County Road 1075 South. For most drivers, losing even one tire would immediately bring a trip to an end. That clearly wasn’t the case here.
Even after this major incident, the driver still kept going, even hitting 130 MPH at one point while continuing southbound. The pursuit finally came to an end in Boone County after Indiana State Police attempted a Precision Immobilization Technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver.
Suspect Faces Multiple Charges Following Dramatic Pursuit
He is currently facing several charges, including Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, Resisting Law Enforcement, Criminal Recklessness While Armed With a Deadly Weapon, and Reckless Driving. The Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon charges were reportedly filed by both the Lafayette Police Department and Indiana State Police.
Some commenters underneath the video were more impressed with the fact that the driver was able to get away with not being injured after having lost that many tires. One comment reads, “Idk what’s more impressive that he was able to go 130 with 2 tires gone or that he got out of that chase with no cuts or scrapes.”
Carter was booked into jail shortly after midnight and remains in custody. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
