Audi Is Recalling Thousands Of E-Trons Because The Brake Pedal Can Fall Off

Most recalls involve software glitches, warning lights, or minor hardware issues.

This one is far more alarming.

Audi is recalling thousands of electric SUVs because the brake pedal could physically detach from the braking system.

And yes, that’s exactly as serious as it sounds.

Nearly 19,000 Vehicles Are Affected

The recall impacts 18,853 vehicles in total.

That includes the 2019-2024 Audi e-tron and the 2020-2024 Audi e-tron Sportback.

According to recall documents filed with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue stems from a screw that may not have been tightened correctly during production.

That screw connects the brake pedal’s input rod to the brake booster actuator rod.

If it loosens or falls out completely, pressing the brake pedal may do absolutely nothing.

Drivers May Notice Warning Signs First

Audi says there are a few symptoms drivers may notice before total failure happens.

Owners could hear unusual noises when releasing the brake pedal.

They may also notice the pedal failing to return to its normal resting position.

Those warning signs could indicate the connection is beginning to fail.

If the pedal fully separates, drivers may need to rely on the electronic parking brake to stop the vehicle.

This Isn’t The First Recall

Audi actually issued a similar recall in August 2024.

That earlier recall covered roughly 1,453 vehicles.

However, the automaker later discovered additional affected vehicles that weren’t included in the original campaign.

That prompted this much larger recall expansion.

The Fix Is Simple, But The Problem Is Serious

Thankfully, the repair itself appears relatively straightforward.

Dealers will inspect the faulty screw and properly torque it if needed.

They’ll also replace damaged brake components if necessary.

Audi says it isn’t aware of any crashes, injuries, or fatalities linked to the defect so far.

Still, a brake pedal potentially disconnecting from the braking system is about as serious as recalls get.
