Michigan State Police troopers searching for a motorcyclist who fled the scene of a crash found themselves joined by an unexpected four-legged visitor.

Troopers from the Marshall Post were called to River Road near Lambert Road in Lockport Township, St. Joseph County, after a motorcycle crashed into a guardrail on August 7.

The incident happened at around 1:30 p.m., with police discovering that the person operating the motorcycle was no longer at the scene.

Authorities said the rider had fled on foot into nearby woods following the collision.

Troopers established a perimeter around the area and requested the assistance of a police K-9 in an attempt to track down the missing motorcyclist.

Unexpected Visitor Arrives at Crash Scene

As troopers investigated the abandoned motorcycle and collected evidence, another animal unexpectedly wandered onto the scene.

A Nigerian Dwarf goat approached the area and began following one of the troopers as officers continued their investigation.

The curious animal appeared comfortable around its new companions and eventually jumped into the back of a Michigan State Police cruiser.

Its unexpected appearance provided an unusual moment for troopers in the middle of their search for the fleeing motorcycle rider.

Goat Becomes Unofficial Police “G-9”

With a K-9 already requested to help search for the motorcyclist, police later jokingly referred to their unexpected visitor as an unofficial “G-9” partner.

The goat continued to follow a trooper around the scene before making itself at home inside the police vehicle.

Michigan State Police shared the unusual encounter publicly, bringing some lighthearted attention to an investigation that had begun after a motorcycle crashed into a guardrail.

The Nigerian Dwarf goat’s brief involvement quickly became the standout moment from the otherwise unsuccessful search.

Motorcyclist Escapes Police Search

Despite establishing a perimeter and requesting K-9 assistance, troopers were ultimately unable to locate the motorcycle operator.

Michigan State Police said the rider had fled into the woods after the motorcycle struck the guardrail and remained unidentified following the search.

The goat, meanwhile, provided troopers with a considerably more memorable encounter.

Police embraced the unusual circumstances by describing the animal as their unofficial “G-9” partner, turning its unexpected appearance at the crash scene into a lighter moment during the investigation.

“Are You Kid-Ding?”: Goat Encounter Has Social Media Laughing

Across a range of Facebook posts, the unexpected “G-9” recruit also proved popular on social media, where users wasted little time making the most of the opportunity for goat-related jokes.

One commenter declared the animal was simply “the GOAT,” playing on the popular acronym for “the greatest of all time.”

Another suggested the four-legged recruit was ready to get straight to work, joking: “Gonna catch some baaaaaad guys.”

Others kept the puns coming, with one person responding to the unusual encounter by asking: “Are you kid-ding?”

While troopers may not have found the motorcyclist they were searching for, their surprise visitor certainly gave social media something to bleat about.
