Two people were arrested in Milwaukee on Monday after a police chase in a vehicle wanted in connection with a bank robbery ended in a crash, according to FOX6. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver took off, leading to a pursuit that ended near Howell and Chase avenues. Both the driver and a passenger were hurt and taken to a hospital before being arrested.
Milwaukee Police Department officers spotted the vehicle at around 3:25 p.m. near 26th and Lincoln. It was wanted in connection with a June 5 bank robbery, but when officers tried to pull it over, the driver refused to stop.
The driver, a 43-year-old man, and a passenger, a 40-year-old woman, were both inside the vehicle when it crashed. Each was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. Both were then placed under arrest.
Charges in the case will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. As of Monday, police had not released the names of the two people arrested. Security video from a nearby business captured the end of the chase and the arrests.
How the Chase Unfolded
Officers picked up the vehicle near 26th and Lincoln and tried to stop it. When the driver refused and drove off instead, the situation turned into a pursuit. It ended near the intersection of Howell and Chase avenues, where the vehicle crashed.
FOX6 went to the scene and obtained video of the chase from a nearby auto business.
The security footage shows the end of the pursuit and the two arrests that followed. Police haven’t said how fast the chase got or what route it took before the crash. But one intriguing detail about this chase is that it took place near Chase Ave., something social media denizens have been picking up on since the footage was shared online.
What We Know About the Bank Robbery
Authorities haven’t released many details about the bank robbery that led to the chase. Neither the bank nor the amount taken has been revealed. The one thing they have nailed down is the link itself: the car officers chased on Monday was the one wanted in that robbery.
The 43-year-old driver and the 40-year-old woman in custody have not been publicly named, and both are still suspects rather than defendants. The case will now be forwarded to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office to determine any charges. For now, the dramatic part is over, but the case itself is just getting started.
