Dashcam Captures a Bewildering Incident Spread Across Several Lanes On the Interstate

Some slightly bewildering dashcam footage has emerged on social media showing one of the craziest accidents you will ever see. It shows what happens when one car in one lane of an interstate hits enough, setting off a massive chain reaction.

The footage was uploaded to the r/dashcams subreddit by Reddit user gldnpetal. It was captioned “Dashcam caught the craziest accident,” and it really did live up to its name. The dashcam car was driving along the interstate as normal, and everything in front of it looked to be going smoothly.

Suddenly, for whatever reason, a silver car sharply pulled to the left and clattered into another car. Sadly for that car, there was plenty of traffic to its left, and all sorts of carnage ensued as car after car hit each other, and traffic had to slow down to avoid being involved in the accident.

There was plenty of chat in the comments section as to who was at fault and who caused the accident to start. Plenty of fingers were pointed at one car in particular, as it appears that without a sudden and sharp turn, this entire accident would not have happened.

What Actually Happened in This Strange Accident?

The footage begins with everything appearing normal, before the camera begins to zoom in on the cars ahead. Up ahead, we suddenly see a silver car move sharply to the left and attempt to get into another lane, but a white car is already occupying the lane that it is trying to enter. With the car in the way, the silver car simply drives into it.

The driver of the white car clearly wasn’t expecting this. Why should he expect someone to just drive into him? So his car gets shoved hard over, and it slams into a minibus or van that is alongside it. That then smashes into a pickup truck on its left, with an SUV appearing to take evasive action while the van and pickup truck almost look to have become interlocked.

The van, pickup truck, and an SUV all got launched onto the grass, while the silver car and white car initially involved in the accident also came to a halt on the interstate. The dashcam pans around and shows the carnage in front of it, with the van coming to a rest on its side while the pickup truck and black SUV also nearly went over. It was a truly chaotic scene, and it all seemingly started because the silver car’s driver decided to make that sharp left turn/jink into the next lane.

Reddit Users Couldn’t Believe the Carnage of the Crash

At the time of writing, the video had 919 comments on it. A lot pointed their fingers at the silver car that Jinked left, as it appeared to be the instigator of the accident. “Silver car driver needs to be arrested and charged,” said the video’s top comment. “Looked like they veered sharply (and unwisely) to avoid something in front of them?” said the first reply below that comment. Even if they did try to avoid something, it was still seemingly their fault.

“Tailgating then recklessly swerving reads as ill intent imo,” said another Reddit user. It does look like they may have been tailgating a truck in front of them, and seemingly had little space to move where they were on the interstate. “Tailgating. Looks like traffic slowed and swerved to avoid a crash…” suggested another Reddit user, which would be a very logical explanation for what happened. If that is the case, then let it be a warning to anyone who does tailgate that it really isn’t a very good idea.
