Imagine being the proud owner of an Audi R8 supercar and wanting to take it up to 250,000 miles. That might sound like quite the task, especially as many people treat supercars almost like trophies and never take them out for a drive.
Well, YouTuber Keller Moore decided that was exactly what he wanted to do with his 2017 Audi R8. He recently appeared on the VINwiki YouTube channel, the company founded by Ed Bolian, to discuss the car and share how he is getting his supercar up to such a high level of mileage.
High mileage isn’t typically something you think about when it comes to supercars. You think of high speeds, big power outputs, large displacement engines, or turbochargers and superchargers. Very few people dare to put 1,000 miles on a supercar’s odometer, never mind a quarter of a million miles.
But the Audi R8 has proven itself to be incredibly reliable over the years, with the same dependability as the German company’s family cars like its sedans and SUVs. And supercars, by their very nature, are built to be driven and enjoyed. So why not go out and put a huge number of miles on the clock?
Moore Explained Why He Bought the Audi R8
It was the reliability of the Audi R8 that led to Moore purchasing the supercar. When he got his hands on it, it already had 56,000 miles on the odometer, and there were no problems with it whatsoever. “I wanted something that I knew I could put a lot of miles on. Did I think that I’d still have this car at almost 150,000 miles? No,” he said to VINwiki.
What has helped is that in the two and a half years that he has owned the car, he has kept on top of the car’s maintenance and looked after it. “Anytime something has broken on it, I’ve always fixed it and whatever,” he said. “I don’t think that there are many other supercars, especially for the price, that you can do that with,” added Moore. When he was interviewed by VINwiki, the car had clocked up around 144,000 miles.
However, his ultimate aim is to still get it up to 250,000 miles and prove that supercars can be incredibly reliable. While it has proven to be quite reliable, getting the car to those big numbers hasn’t always been straightforward. There have been a few things along the way that have had to be taken care of, not least when the car began to leak fluid on the sidewalk while Moore was in Tennessee.
Moore Has To Do a Lot of Work To Look After the Car

The leaking of fluid happened when the car was parked at DuPont Registry’s facility in Lebanon, Tennessee. It transpired that the Audi needed a new flywheel, new bell housing, new clutches, and a new carrier bearing. After 20,000 miles of driving, the AC compressor failed and that needed replacing, costing Moore around $12,000 to replace. Then there is the usual ongoing maintenance, such as oil changes.
That, as well as new tires and transmission services, is being done every 30,000 to 40,000 miles by the YouTuber. “There are a lot of people who think I just beat the hell out of it, which I do. But in a way, the moment I am aware of something going wrong on it, it’s replaced or swapped out or whatever,” he said. “I really do take care of that thing.” It is clear that Moore wants this car to make it to his ultimate target mileage. And with all this care, there is every chance that it will make 250,000 miles.
