A Dodge salesman has taken to TikTok to say that he caught a woman who was trying to pull off a straw purchase while out shopping for a car with her brother. Dodge salesman Black Matilda’s Daddy (@black.matildas.da) posted the video to his TikTok account.
The salesman said that the woman had come into the dealership to look at a Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack. However, the salesman said he quickly deduced that the woman was trying to make a straw purchase (more on that later), and so he quickly threatened to call the police.
“They complained about the 1,200/month payment and refused to do the deal,” said the salesman in the video. He was clearly very unhappy with what he was watching and got quite frustrated in the video. “Sign right there before I call the [expletive] police. This is a stick. Imma call the police,” he said.
TikTok viewers responded in droves to the video posted by the salesman. At the time of writing, that video had over 76,000 views, and if you feel you are going to be messed around by a customer, it’s easy to understand why the dealer was left so frustrated.

But what exactly is a straw purchase? Well, a straw purchase is when someone gets financing for an auto loan for a car/vehicle that they have no intention of driving. Usually, they are going to let a family member or a friend drive the car. While this might not sound so serious, it can actually be considered fraud.
You can’t mislead a lending institution as to who will be the primary driver of the car. That is deceptive, and as reported by CoPilot, it is a crime that can lead to quite a major punishment. If you are caught doing a straw purchase, legal fines, repossession, and even suspension of the driver’s license for both individuals are on the table. A straw purchase can also make it harder or even impossible to locate a car if it needs to be repossessed.
This type of purchase is different from one where a parent is buying a car for a child or is co-signing for one. In those instances, it is made clear who the primary driver is, so the dealer and insurance companies are not being misled. A straw purchase, however, counts as fraud, which is why those caught doing it face hefty punishments.
TikTok Users Responded to the Straw Purchase

The video by the salesman got plenty of attention and drew a lot of comments from various viewers. “A family member had tricked me into doing a straw purchase when I was in my early twenties…credit still [expletive],” one said, claiming that a straw purchase can also ruin your credit. “I’m not signing [expletive] for no one. Not even a school permission slip,” said another jokingly.
Some were also shocked at how much the monthly payment of $1,200 was for the Dodge. “1,200 a month is crazy work.. If I were the straw, I would bounce. That’s crazy,” said one user. Regardless, it’s easy to understand why the dealer was so frustrated by the situation he was in. Fingers crossed the police did not need to get involved, and the potential buyers of the car saw sense.
