A police officer from the Sandy Springs Police Department has shared the story of what he called his most legendary PIT maneuver ever. In a video for Ed Bolian’s VINwiki YouTube channel, Jordan Ennis said it was the largest vehicle ever pitted by a cop.

A pitting maneuver, also known as the Precision Immobilization Technique, is when a car gets onto the corner of a vehicle they are chasing before turning into its corner and, in theory, spinning them out of control. Other officers can then ensure the vehicle has stopped and arrest those inside.

You would normally expect to see this in action against other cars. We covered some remarkable dashcam footage recently that showed exactly that. However, what you don’t expect to hear about is a police car being able to PIT a truck around, which sounds almost impossible.

Yet that is exactly what Ennis described happened in his video for VINwiki. Ennis described it as the ‘most legendary PIT maneuver’ ever and said it was the largest vehicle a cop has ever spun. The thought of a police car turning around a large truck sounds utterly incredible.

How Ennis Described the Situation

The police officer said he received a phone call from a friend, who said that one of his buddies had been the victim of a break-in at his business and that a 36-foot enclosed cargo truck, full of lawnmowers, had been stolen. Thankfully, the business could track the truck and pinpoint its location and destination. Ennis and his colleagues set about finding the truck and stopping it from escaping onto the interstate.

They soon found the truck, and the man who had stolen it was going as fast as he could. Incredibly, the truck driver was listening to music as he went on. He must have seen the flashing blue lights in his mirrors and known the police were there, but he seemingly didn’t care. The officers kept swerving around the truck to work out what was going on and what they could do.

They considered putting spikes under the wheels to blow out the tires and stop it. Ennis didn’t know what to do, but that is when he decided to pull up alongside the truck and attempt to spin it around. Trying to pull a PIT maneuver on a massive truck sounds wild. Yet remarkably, Ennis described the maneuver itself as one of the easiest PIT maneuvers that he had ever done up to that point.

Ennis Was Able To Spin the Truck Around

Luckily for us, VINwiki was able to show the police car’s dashcam footage, so we see the moment Ennis spun the truck around. He came up alongside the right-rear corner and just appeared to nudge the truck, but that was enough to spin it around. “It was probably one of the easiest pits I’ve ever done in my life,” he said. “Like I caught him right there on the liftgate, and it turned,” he added. The truck spun around, into the wall on the right-hand side, and it flipped over.

The truck came to rest on its right-hand side, and there was no way for the driver inside to make an escape. The truck looped incredibly easily and flipped over equally easily, and Ennis said he wasn’t expecting to do that to the truck so easily. As you can probably imagine, the clip went viral easily, with many others simply astounded that Ennis had been able to spin the truck around so easily. It certainly makes for some highly entertaining viewing.
