Who doesn’t love a bit of dashcam footage? Dashcams can capture some truly outrageous moments, often hilarious. On Reddit, the r/dashcams SubReddit is full of some amazing video clips, such as this one uploaded recently by Aware-Still-6756.
The footage, which has started to gain traction, appears to be from 2022, and it isn’t confirmed whether the original poster owns the footage. However, that doesn’t matter. It’s what it shows us that matters, and it reveals an aggressive Volkswagen driver approaching the car with the dashcam as they try to overtake another car.
The dashcam car is simply trying to overtake someone who is going a bit slower than it is. The VW, meanwhile, just roars up behind them, lights flashing, and tries to get past as quickly as possible. The caption for the post reads, “That karma is instant,” and you can probably guess what happened next.
The comments section of the video was full of fellow Reddit users finding the footage incredibly amusing. Who can blame them? Tailgating and having someone that close to the back of your car can be annoying and stressful, so it is easy to see why some might revel in this footage.
What Happened in the Dashcam Footage?
The footage begins with the rear-facing camera in the car’s rear cabin. In it, we see the Volkswagen roaring right up behind the dashcam car, flashing its lights and tailgating the driver in front. The dashcam driver is simply trying to pass a slower car, without breaking the speed limit or doing anything dangerous. The VW driver, meanwhile, is incredibly impatient.
We see the dashcam car safely move past the SUV it was passing and pull back into the inside lane. Then we see the Volkswagen roar past first from the rear camera, and then from the front-mounted dashcam. It was clearly aggressive driving, but you might be wondering where the karma is that the original poster spoke about. Well, it comes just a few seconds after the car goes past.
The VW speeds away when it suddenly comes upon a right-hand bend. Roads can indeed have corners, but it would appear this particular driver had forgotten about that. The VW attempted to make the corner at the same speed it went past the dashcam car, but it clearly wasn’t going to happen.
He got partway around the corner before the back end stepped out; the VW slid and smashed into the barriers. The car bounced back with the rear of the four-door hatchback taking quite a beating, and that is instant karma.
Reddit Users Found the Situation Incredibly Amusing
The video has over 20,000 upvotes and over 640 comments at the time of writing. Naturally, a video as dramatic as this is going to gain some attention, and many fellow Reddit users found it incredibly funny. “Sometimes the trash just takes itself out,” said user Few-Army5231.
“I would’ve slowed down, rolled the windows down, and told them to have a nice day now,” said mjc-u7272. While an accident is obviously serious, there is a huge sense of irony that this happened to the Volkswagen, straight after being incredibly aggressive toward another driver.
Further down, even more comments kept coming in.
Roll down the window with serious concern on my face like I’m going to ask if he’s OK. When I get his attention, say, “Umm, I don’t think you’re supposed to park there.”, THEN drive away laughing like the Crypt Keeper!” said Sir Flannel. Perhaps the moral of the story here is: don’t drive like an idiot, as karma will come and get you back at some point. It just might not always be this quick, though!
