A Tesla crashed through part of the company’s showroom at its Fremont Factory on Wednesday after making a series of unusual movements outside the building.
The incident was captured in a video posted by X user XanderSky, who said he was inside the showroom when it happened. He said he had been about to walk toward the hallway where the vehicle eventually came through, but stopped to speak with an employee.
The poster described the crash as a driver error and said nobody was injured. He later characterized the driver as part of an older couple and suggested the vehicle may have been a demonstration unit because it lacked license plates. Those details have not been independently confirmed.
The location matches Tesla’s Fremont showroom at 45500 Fremont Blvd. Tesla describes the showroom as located at the Fremont Factory and offers demo drives on-site.

The video quickly drew attention because the vehicle does not appear to make only one unexpected movement before the collision. The sequence prompted viewers to question what happened inside the car before it entered the building.
XanderSky called it “pedal misapplication,” but there is not yet vehicle data, an official crash report or another authoritative account establishing that as the cause.
Asked whether the crash might have been deliberate, he rejected that suggestion and again pointed to the occupants being an older couple and the possibility that they were in a demo vehicle.
He also posted footage from inside after the impact. The material he shared showed substantial debris where the vehicle entered the showroom.
A Familiar Error

Pedal misapplication is not merely an internet explanation for unusual low-speed crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has studied the phenomenon, including in Tesla vehicles.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation reviewed 217 crashes during a 2020 investigation prompted by allegations of sudden unintended acceleration in Tesla Model S, Model X and Model 3 vehicles. The agency obtained event-data-recorder information, Tesla vehicle logs or both for 118 of them.
Its final technical review found no vehicle-based cause of unintended acceleration in those 118 crashes. The data showed the vehicles accelerating when the accelerator was pressed and slowing when it was released or the brake was applied.
NHTSA concluded the reviewed sudden-acceleration crashes with available data resulted from drivers mistakenly pressing the accelerator when they intended to press the brake. In 97% of the crashes it analyzed, the accelerator reached at least 85% application. Ninety percent showed no braking before impact.
The settings were notable, too. Of 211 incidents NHTSA classified as related to sudden unintended acceleration, 86% occurred in parking lots, driveways or other close-quarter areas where braking would normally be expected.
About 51% happened during the driver’s first six months using the particular vehicle.
Still Unanswered
Those findings do not establish what happened at Fremont on Wednesday. The model involved has not been independently confirmed, nor has the vehicle’s ownership, whether it was a Tesla demo vehicle or what its event data recorded immediately before the impact.
That distinction matters because the federal investigation dealt with other crashes and other vehicles. It provides context for how pedal mistakes can produce abrupt crashes in close quarters, not a diagnosis of this one.
For now, the firmest account comes from the person who says he witnessed the aftermath from inside Tesla’s showroom: a vehicle entered the building, nobody was reported injured, and a trip toward the restroom hallway became considerably less routine than expected.
