A 38-year-old woman died after her electric bicycle and a Volvo SUV collided at a Colton intersection Friday night, but exactly how the two came together remains unsettled.
Asandria Jacobo was riding the e-bike near 12th Street and East F Street when the collision occurred. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
The Colton Police Department described the event only as a collision involving a Volvo SUV and an electric bicycle, according to an updated report from ABC7. Police did not say which vehicle struck the other or assign fault.
The Volvo driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
That leaves one important part of the crash dependent, for now, on what witnesses told the television station rather than what police have established.
A Different Account
Witnesses described Jacobo’s e-bike striking the Volvo after she ran a stop sign, ABC7 reported. Police have not confirmed that account.
That distinction became more significant after ABC7 updated its original coverage. An earlier version described the SUV as slamming into Jacobo’s e-bike, but the station later noted that the police release did not support that description of the collision.
The revised account does not establish the opposite version as fact. It leaves the sequence of the crash open while police continue examining what happened.
Still Being Examined
Police have not announced a citation, arrest or determination of fault in connection with the collision.
