British manufacturer Jensen is well known for the famous Interceptor. It is arguably the car with the world’s coolest name, but the company sadly disappeared a few years ago. However, fast-forward to September 2026, and Jensen is back, with a new car having been officially revealed.
This is the Jesen Interceptor GTX, a car inspired by its predecessor for more than just its name. While it is only a prototype at the time of writing, it is a fantastic preview of where the company is expected to go with its new road cars.
In many ways, the new Interceptor GTX looks a lot like a British version of the Ford Mustang GTD. It is big, bulky, packed with aero, and it even has a General Motors V8 engine under the hood. Plus, it can produce over 1,000hp.
The fact that Jensen is back at all is incredibly good news for automotive enthusiasts. It revives one of the greatest names in sports car history, and the fact that they’ve chosen the Interceptor name for the car itself really is the icing on the cake. Very few cars in the world have a name as cool as Jensen Interceptor.
Big V8 Power Is Under the Hood of the New Jensen Interceptor GTX
Jensen actually has plenty of history with American engines. Several found their way under the hood of the original Interceptors, so it feels right that another good-old V8 motor is powering the new car. This time, it is a supercharged 6.8-liter V8 engine from General Motors. However, Jensen has massively upgraded the engine, leaving around 20 components from the original block.
The upgraded engine can produce 960hp in base form, yet it is capable of producing 1,200hp and more than 1,100lb-ft of torque. That V8 power goes through a rear-mounted Samsonas Motorsport six-speed sequential transmission with straight-cut dog gears. Connecting the engine and the transaxle is a carbon fiber prop shaft, with a Wavetrac differential sending the V8 power to the rear wheels.
Step inside, and you will be greeted with what looks like the interior of a race car. That is because that is what the Interceptor GTX is. This is not a road-going supercar, but a track-ready monster, complete with a MoTeC racing display, steering wheel, and center console. It has a bespoke FIA safety cage, Tillet carbon fiber competition seats, a fire extinguisher, and a six-point harness. A little bit of luxury is added, however, thanks to the Alcantara trim and orange stitching.
What Is Next for the Revived Jensen Name?
In terms of what comes next, the new GTX is just the beginning for the revived Jensen brand. The company will put the Interceptor GTX through its paces to hone it and put everything it learns from it into its road cars. There will be two versions of the Interceptor, a higher-performance GTR and a more luxury-focused GT. These, of course, will both be designed for the road and will have an H-pattern manual and a standard automatic transmission available.
“While this is only the first step, the GTX gives a clear indication of where we are heading and marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the marque,” said Jensen International’s Managing Director, David Duerden. We don’t yet know when production will begin, but the company will work alongside customers and keep them updated as much as possible. We can’t wait to see Jensen return to the roads.
