Amazon Prime’s car show, The Grand Tour, is coming back, but it no longer has Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond at the helm. The ‘three amigos’ have all stepped down, and instead, Throttle House hosts James Englesman and Thomas Holland will present the program, alongside viral trainspotter Francis Bourgeois.
The first trailer for the new show has dropped, and so far, the reaction has been positive. The trio knows they can never replace Clarkson, Hammond and May. But they look like they can still provide plenty of laughs, and look to be the perfect mix for the show.
Ahead of the new season landing in September 2026, the three have taken part in a cheeky spin on ‘snog, marry, avoid’ called ‘drive, buy, destroy’ for The Grand Tour YouTube channel. It is the perfect way for the audience to get to know them before the show airs.
In the video, the three are given three cars each time, and they have to decide whether they want to just drive the car, buy it, or destroy it. Drive is snog, buy is marry, and destroy is avoid. As you can probably guess, it’s quite an entertaining watch.
Choosing Between Each Set of Cars Isn’t Easy
The task is instantly made tricky in the first round, with the three presented with the Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Countach, and the Porsche 930 Turbo. Francis said he loved the Testarossa, but James said he would destroy it. James and Thomas would buy the Countach, and Francis agreed. The Testarossa would be bought, and the Porsche 930 Turbo would be destroyed.
Next up were the Lotus Elise, Noble M400, and TVR Sagaris. The trio decided to drive the TVR, buy the Lotus Elise, and destroy the Noble M400. They did all admit, though, that in real life, a TVR isn’t exactly the most reliable car! The three are then presented with a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
Francis openly admitted that American muscle cars “don’t tickle my pickle,” as Brits would say. In other words, he isn’t really a fan of them. They did, however, drive the Hellcat, buy the Shelby GT500, and destroy the Camaro ZL1. Thomas then recounted a story of how James spun a pickup truck in Los Angeles, and in the pouring rain, he spun it across five lanes of traffic. He kept apologizing to Thomas as he did so, making for quite a hilarious situation.
Are People Excited for the New Grand Tour?
Based on the reaction from the first trailer, there does seem to be a lot of excitement surrounding the new season of the show. Legendary producer Andy Willman, who produced Top Gear and the Amazon show alongside Clarkson, Hammond and May, is still going to produce the new season, and he recently heaped praise on the three new presenters via a Reddit AMA.
Penned as the “same show, new knobs” by Amazon, reactions to the trailer were very positive. “They certainly seem to have the right sense of humor for the gig,” said one commenter on the trailer. “This really looks like it has the essence of the old show without looking to fully replicate it. I’ve also been a fan of all 3 before this, so I’m very excited,” said another. We will have to wait and see what happens when the new show starts, but the signs are already looking promising.
