A mechanic may have just exposed a fault with the Chevrolet Trax after the owner of the car brought it into his shop to have a ‘buzzing sound’ fixed that was coming from the dashboard. TikTok user @coolbanana175, who shares “mechanic, cars, trucks” videos, posted about the problem.
In the video, which is beginning to gain traction, the mechanic is heard checking for the noise, and it didn’t take him long to hear what was going on with the SUV. The sound wasn’t eye-shatteringly loud; however, it would be something that irritated you as you drove along.
Having been able to hear the problem, the mechanic then had to try to work out why it was doing this. But the answer seemingly came from an unlikely source, as after he hit the hazard lights button, the buzzing began to pulse in sync with that of the hazard-light clicker.
A buzzing noise coming from the hazard warning lights might sound a bit far-fetched. But as the video goes on, it becomes clearer that there is actually something going on with the hazard lights that is causing this strange and annoying buzzing sound.
What Was Causing the Buzzing Sound?

After pressing the hazard lights button, the buzzing began to pulse right in sync with the hazard-light clicker in almost spooky coincidence. That gave the mechanic food for thought, so he decided to test out a few other things on the SUV to see what was going on. “Adjusting the HVAC makes no difference,” @coolbanana175 said. Also, adjusting the brightness … no difference—only when I hit the flashers,” he added.
The mechanic then went on to adjust the climate controls and the brightness of the dashboard. But the buzzing noise continued with no change, suggesting that it was indeed linked, somehow, to the hazard warning lights. Unfortunately, we don’t get to see in the video what exactly the mechanic did to finally fix the problem and fully diagnose it. But thankfully, a comment posted later on did provide an answer to what on Earth had been happening.
With it seemingly linked to the hazards, investigating that section of the car was clearly the right thing to do. According to Choice Auto Repair, noises like this can sometimes be deceptive. If a larger panel is to blame, it might cause a hollow sound coming from one spot. A sharp click can hint at a loose trim piece, while scratching noises can indicate worn pieces of rubber. But did viewers of the video manage to get the answer?
The Mechanic Responded With the Answer to the Problem
After a bit of pestering from viewers, the mechanic did manage to follow up in the comments section of the video. Amusingly, it was something less serious. It turned out the garage door opener was lying on the wireless charger, causing the awful buzzing sound. However, this wasn’t an isolated issue. “I had a set of dollar store earbuds do the same thing in an older Traverse (I believe) cause the same kind of noise when they were too close to the radio,” said another user.
It is an interesting piece of information to learn, however. While thankfully nothing was seriously wrong with the Chevrolet Trax, the fact that an item being left on the car’s wireless charger caused such an annoying sound perhaps isn’t a great sign for the quality of that part. If you can’t rest anything on a wireless charger without it making a noise, then is it something worth having in the car at all?
