We seem to be getting a lot of crazy new stories from the UK motoring scene at the moment. We’ve heard how drink-driving is becoming a major problem in the country, and that old parking rules can result in some rather hefty fines. The country can certainly throw up some unusual tales.
Now, however, a story from the Yorkshire Post has emerged of a 100mph police chase involving a helicopter and a stolen car. The incident took place in the early hours of August 7th, with the South Yorkshire Police involved in an effort to stop the stolen vehicle.
Footage and images shared by the police force came from a helicopter that was tracking the stolen car. According to the reports, the car had been stolen a few days previously, meaning the police were already on the lookout for this particular vehicle.
The report from the Yorkshire Post also detailed how, after being cornered, the driver and passenger attempted to escape on foot from the chasing police. Thankfully, those involved in the theft of the car were caught, and the police were able to report a successful operation.
What Actually Happened in the Police Chase?

According to news reports, including from the BBC, the driver of the vehicle had been involved in the theft of it a couple of days previously. It had been stolen in a burglary in Barnsley, and the car and suspects had gone into hiding after the event. During the early hours of August 7th, the police had tried to pull over a vehicle that had started to act suspiciously.
The driver of the vehicle then immediately sped off, and the chase from the police on the ground and in the air began. The driver of the stolen vehicle reportedly hit speeds of over 100mph during the chase as they tried to escape. During the chase, the police were able to confirm it was the car stolen in Barnsley two days prior.
A helicopter from the National Police Air Service assisted those officers on the ground. They were able to track the vehicle to a housing estate in Kendray after ground forces had lost the car. It was at this point that the suspects, a driver and passenger, attempted to flee the scene and escape the chasing police. However, the helicopter above was able to direct the pursuing police to where they were running.
The Suspects Were Eventually Apprehended

The Yorkshire Post stated that after hopping several garden fences to try and escape, the suspects were tracked down. It is thanks to police dog PD Pablo and his handler that they were caught. A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, and dangerous driving.
He has since been charged with driving while disqualified, aggravated vehicle taking, and dangerous driving. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man was also arrested for multiple driving offences. However, he was released with no further action taken. The incident was certainly a scary one, and luckily, as it took place in the early hours, the roads were mercifully quiet when the chase took place.
