I don’t typically enjoy watching videos about people who claim to be sovereign citizens because it feels too embarrassing to watch. It’s so odd to me that there is an entire group of people in the United States who truly believe that the rules and laws of the government do not apply to them.

Actually, they don’t think that the rules don’t apply to them; they think that the entire federal government is just a fake, corporate entity. Of course, things started to make just a little more sense once it was realized that the drivers in this particular situation are from Florida.

The two suspects this time around were a young man and woman who not only claim to be sovereign citizens, but are walking the walk too. At one point, the female in the passenger seat lets the officer pulling them over know that she is drinking urine for therapy purposes.

The entire situation was from October 17, 2022, and was reposted to YouTube by Sergeant Curtis, who narrates the situation for those who might not understand what’s going on.

Sovereign Citizen Logic Meets an Officer Who Isn’t Buying It

Please give the following video just a second to load completely.

The video starts with a Gainesville Police officer parking her vehicle and walking toward a parked car in what appears to be a shopping plaza. Inside the car is a man in the driver’s seat and a woman in the passenger seat.

When the officer walks over, she initially warns the driver about his license plate and how it’s affixed to his car, but then quickly realizes this is actually a sovereign-citizen situation. When the officer asks the driver for their license, he denies having one and is promptly removed from the car and handcuffed.

Interestingly, while this was happening, the officer took a few seconds to have a conversation with the suspect, asking him if he was planning to resist at all. He didn’t physically resist, but he did refuse to give his name, which prompted the officer to put him in the back of her cruiser to later identify him at a prison.

And Then the Officer Asks What’s in the Mason Jar

When the officer returned to the vehicle, she asked the passenger if she had a valid driver’s license, and the passenger agreed. When asked why she wasn’t the one driving the car instead, she tried to state sovereign citizen laws that don’t actually exist.

At this point, the officer returned to her vehicle and spoke with the male again, who continued trying to talk his way out of the situation. There even comes a point where the officer suggests that they speak with the government to see if he could educate them on what he knows about sovereign citizen laws.

Of course, things only spiraled from there, but in a rather muted way, considering how easygoing both suspects were. Once the male was in the police cruiser, officers stayed with the woman and asked her to identify a few mason jars that she had with her.

She identified the second bottle as her own urine.

He Wants To Educate the Government From the Back of a Police Cruiser

After reviewing the male driver’s potential warrants, it was discovered that he already had one for the same thing he was being arrested for in that moment. However, the suspect claimed to have already appeared in court and had the case dismissed.

Interestingly, the woman was rather understanding about the situation and even heard the officer out as she explained what to do to properly register the vehicle, since she has a valid driver’s license. Unfortunately, her boyfriend was going to jail for this.

The video goes on to show a few processes from within the jail, including what it looks like when suspects pass through an X-ray machine on arrival.

Comments Are Already Exhausted by the Sovereign Citizen Argument

While much of the comment section was filled with condolences for Sergeant Curtis following the loss of his mother, viewers who weighed in on the actual bodycam footage seemed thoroughly exhausted by the sovereign citizen routine. One person summed up their reaction rather perfectly, writing, “This sovereign citizenship crap is exhausting!”

Another moment that caught viewers’ attention came when someone in the footage apparently asked, “What do you do with that?” One commenter jokingly described them as “someone who thought they wanted to know,” suggesting the answer probably provided considerably more information than they bargained for.

Things apparently got even stranger once urine therapy entered the conversation. One viewer could only respond, “Urine therapy!?!? Dear God,” while another warned that drinking urine is a fringe practice that can carry health risks. Considering this started with a sovereign citizen flashing “papers” at a police officer, somehow that still managed to be one of the more unexpected turns.

The overwhelming majority of the most popular comments, however, had nothing to do with the arrest. Viewers instead offered condolences to Curtis and his family, repeatedly telling him that his mother, Dorothy, had clearly raised a good man and would have been proud of him. Several also responded to his apparent request to honor her through acts of kindness, with one viewer promising to perform an intentional act of kindness that day in her memory.
