There’s a certain kind of confidence that comes with driving the same road every single day. You know every bump, every pothole, every place where the pavement dips just enough to make your stomach do a little flip if you’re going too fast. Apparently, one driver in Glendale, Ohio either forgot about the railroad crossing on their daily route or decided that particular afternoon was the day to find out what their sedan could really do.
The moment was caught on camera and shared by the folks at Virtual Railfan, a page that keeps an eye on train crossings around the country and, evidently, catches plenty of other action along the way. According to the post, this kind of thing happens more often than you’d expect at this particular crossing, which honestly tracks. Some roads just have that one spot that turns into an unofficial stunt ramp.
In the video, several cars cross the tracks at a reasonable, sensible pace, the kind of driving your grandmother would approve of. Then comes our star of the show, absolutely not slowing down for the bumpy crossing. The car catches a bit of air, lands with a wobble, and fishtails slightly as it continues down the hill. If this were a driving test, we’re guessing that’s an automatic fail.
Waiting at the bottom of that hill, as fate would have it, were two Glendale police vehicles. Said one Facebook comment: “The fact the cops were right there as it happened is absolute cinema.”
One officer can be seen sprinting to his car and flipping on the lights almost as soon as the sedan clears the tracks. To the driver’s credit, they didn’t try to make a run for it. The car pulled over without any drama, and both patrol vehicles rolled up behind it with lights flashing. Added another comment: “Dude understood the assignment and executed it perfectly and pulled over even before the lights came on.”
A Crossing With a Reputation
Every town seems to have that one spot where drivers get a little too comfortable, and this railroad crossing in Glendale sounds like it’s earned a reputation of its own. When a local page casually mentions grabbing a bite at a nearby pub to watch the show, you know this isn’t the first rodeo at this particular intersection.
Railroad crossings are one of those things where the rules are simple but the consequences for ignoring them are not. Drivers are expected to slow down, look both directions, and never try to beat a train through a crossing.
Even without a train in sight, taking a crossing too fast, like we saw here, can cause a driver to lose control on the other side. Suspension components, alignment, and tires all take a beating too, so there’s a mechanical price to pay even when nobody gets hurt.
Local Police Response
Glendale Police deserve some credit here for their timing alone. Being in the right place at the right time isn’t always luck. It sounds like they know exactly where drivers tend to get a little too enthusiastic, and they were ready to act the moment it happened.
At the end of the day, nobody was hurt, the car stayed upright, and the driver pulled over without incident. Just another reminder that railroad crossings aren’t the place to test your suspension.
