A man in Tulsa, Oklahoma, allegedly burglarized a local shop and then made a run for it. As police closed in on him, he decided to hide from responding agents. Where exactly? Under a marked patrol car, of all places.
According to a news release issued by the Tulsa Police Department (TPD), the incident occurred on Monday, June 29. At around 12:23 a.m., TPD officers responded to a local machine shop.
The police had received reports that two individuals had entered the store near 12th and Joplin Ave. As per the authorities, these men had burglarized it.
Furthermore, officers were briefed that the suspects had attempted to cut through a fence on the east side of the business. Upon arrival, they began their investigation.
Jumping Fences, Getting Hurt
The caller, perhaps the business owner, directed the responding TPD officers toward the aforementioned fence. That is when they came across one of the two individuals, later identified as 35-year-old Kary Sharpe.
As he saw the officers closing in on him, the man decided to run, police said. His first instinct was to jump several fences in the surrounding business.
He, however, became injured, as the fences were barbed wire, as shown in photos shared by the TPD. Therefore, Sharpe tried to take a much more subtle approach to his alleged fleeing.
A Very Smart Hiding Spot
Police said that, after trying to jump fences, Sharpe decided to hide under an officer’s marked patrol vehicle. With it arguably being the worst place you can pick to hide from police who are actively seeking to take you into custody, the 35-year-old man was “quickly” placed under arrest without incident.
Given his injuries, Sharpe was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment. Upon release, he was booked into the Tulsa County Jail.
Kary Sharpe is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony after a former conviction of a felony, attempted second-degree burglary after a former conviction of a felony, and obstructing an officer. The conspiracy to commit a felony charge could land him 10 years behind bars. However, given the AFCF enhancements, he could end up receiving a much harsher sentence.

Given the nature of the allegations and the details of Sharpe’s attempt to elude the police, many users reacted to the news of his arrest. Most agreed that hiding underneath a police car was probably not the smartest idea in the world.
“It’s too hot to be under a car. Have a seat in the back instead,” one person said. Another one added, “No one said a thief was smart.”
Fueled by the photo showing Sharpe under the patrol unit with his head pressed against one of its wheels, it is safe to say that such a story will continue to spark laughter. Sharpe, meanwhile, probably isn’t finding it too funny.
