Dolly Parton has done a lot of things in her time. She’s sold hundreds of millions of records, built a theme park, and funded the Moderna vaccine. But as of yesterday, June 24, she can add a new line to the resume: truck stop operator. Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop officially opened its doors in Cornersville, Tennessee, and Dolly herself was on hand to cut the ribbon.
The location sits at Exit 22 off I-65, right in the stretch between Nashville and Huntsville, which puts it in a genuinely useful spot for anyone making that north-south run through Tennessee. It’s not a vanity project slapped onto a gas station. This is a full-scale travel center built around actual hospitality, which, if you’ve ever stopped at a sketchy interstate rest stop at 2 a.m., you’ll appreciate more than most.
The stop came together through a partnership between Parton, her longtime manager Danny Nozell, and Gregory Sachs, who has run the Tennessean Travel Stop brand since 2017. Dolly’s involvement draws directly from her own history on the road, decades of touring the country by bus, starting from her roots in the hills of East Tennessee. The concept is built around the idea that stopping somewhere shouldn’t feel like a punishment.
And the place is open 24/7, so whether you’re making miles at noon or midnight, it’s there.
What’s Actually Inside
This isn’t chips-and-a-hot-dog territory (although nothin’ wrong with that either). Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop includes DLY BBQ for sit-down food service, a full cafe and restaurant, and a coffee brand called Cup of Ambition, named after her 1980 hit “9 to 5.”
There’s also a merch shop stocked with custom gear, which will either be your kind of thing or it won’t.
The Touches That Set It Apart
The stop features a commissioned mural created specifically for the Cornersville location, designed as a permanent nod to the local community. There’s also a tour bus on-site modeled after the one Dolly has traveled in for years, which gives visitors something to photograph and gives the location some genuine personality beyond the fuel pumps.
Truckers are already voicing excitement on social media. One driver said: “Prefer hers over Buc-ee’s anyday. Plus she helped make roads safer by adding places for truckers to rest. I may just do a road trip to visit that over Buckee’s.”
Added another: “As a trucker for 40+years, this place is the nicest, most unique travel stop I have seen. Had no idea Dolly would eventually become involved.”
What’s Next
This is described as a flagship location, with more stops planned down the road. If the formula works, it could be a legitimate alternative to the generic travel center experience that’s more or less the same from state to state.
For now, if you’re passing through Marshall County, Tennessee, it’s worth the exit ramp.
