A Washington man is facing some pretty hefty charges after it was said that an injured stabbing victim was dropped off at a local hospital by people who wanted to go incognito. By that, I mean that they left without identifying themselves, causing yet a whole other mystery for officers to resolve.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Othello Community Hospital at approximately 7:40 pm on June 23 after receiving reports that a man suffering from multiple stab wounds had been brought to the emergency room. The victim had reportedly been injured somewhere in the area of West State Route 26 near Othello.

The victim was later identified as 23-year-old Ryan James Kendall of West Richland. Officials said Kendall was in critical condition when he arrived at the hospital.

By the time deputies arrived at the hospital, however, the individuals who had transported the victim had already left the scene. Hospital staff told investigators that those who dropped the man off departed shortly after arriving and did not provide any identifying information before leaving.

Detectives Identify Primary Suspect After Intensive Investigation

Due to the severity of his injuries, medical personnel arranged for Kendall to be airlifted to a higher-level trauma center for emergency treatment. Authorities have not released additional details regarding his current medical condition.

As detectives began piecing together the events that led to the stabbing, investigators focused their efforts on identifying the people who had transported Kendall to the hospital. Through investigative efforts, deputies and detectives were able to identify the individuals involved.

One of those individuals was identified as 30-year-old Joseph Andrew Abbott of Connell. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators developed probable cause establishing Abbott as the primary suspect in the assault.

Multi-Agency Search Ends With Suspect’s Arrest in Franklin County

Investigators later received information indicating Abbott may have been in the area of West State Route 260 near Highway 17 in neighboring Franklin County. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office was immediately contacted and responded to assist.

Working together, members of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office safely located Abbott and took him into custody without incident. Abbott was subsequently booked into jail on suspicion of Assault in the First Degree.

If convicted, then Abbott could face up to a lifetime in prison and a fine up to $50,000.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office credited the successful apprehension to the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies, including the Othello Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Connell Police Department, and the Washington State Patrol.

Sheriff Dale Wagner also praised patrol deputies, detectives, emergency communications personnel, and corrections staff for their professionalism, communication, and rapid information sharing throughout the investigation.

Commenters Question Why Those Who Dropped off the Victim Left the Scene

Commenters were just as confused as you might be about the entire situation. One of the very top comments reads, “I’m not understanding, he stabbed them and then dropped him off? Well if that is the case I’m happy his conscious kicked in- but I have a feeling there is more to this story! Please update when possible.”

Another person wrote, “Am I reading this right? Abbott stabbed him and then drove him to the hospital?” A different commenter tried to explain things a bit better, writing, “It states “Individuals Dropped him off..” Not Abbot(Stabby). Stabby was on the run. It was probably a couple people who saw it and didnt want to stick around for “other” reasons.”

Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional investigative work is expected. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
