Some of us are better at parking than others. That is a fact of life. But in fairness, parking a car isn’t always as easy as it seems. You might have to squeeze into a tight spot because it is the only spot available at the time.
Perhaps you are at a grocery store and the other cars have parked in such a way as to make your life incredibly difficult. We all dream of big, wide open spaces to park our cars, but the reality is that isn’t always available.
That can lead to mishaps and possible damage to our car if we get it wrong. That is exactly what has happened to one particular Reddit user, who posted in the r/Autos subReddit that they had shredded a curb with their front tire when they were trying to park a car.
That led to them asking for advice on what to do next. But this is Reddit, and some of the responses were while less than helpful, also slightly amusing. So the advice this driver had hoped for might not be so forthcoming.
How Badly Did the Reddit User Park?
Images shared by the driver show off the damage to the car and its tires. They explained that they had shredded the curb with the front tire, and that they were driving at just under 20mph when they had the incident. They were asking if they should get it checked at a repair shop.
The images do show the tire with visible damage, especially around the edge. We can clearly see damage to the wheel itself, with scratches and scrapes on the alloy of the car. Also on the tire is a visible hole, which gave the driver great cause for concern. They were concerned that they had damaged the tire beyond repair, and that it would not be safe to use it.
A closer look at the hole, however, suggests this is just cosmetic damage. It appears to have just taken a chunk of rubber off the rim, and it does not appear to have actually produced a deep hole into the tire itself. That would have required a new tire to be fitted, but from the two images shown, we think this driver might have gotten away with it. They did, however, still want some advice from Reddit users as to what they should do next.
This Is What Reddit Users Said About the Tire

Unsurprisingly, there were some joke responses to the question on Reddit. One said “Utilizing the Braille method of parking, I see…,” indicating that the driver wasn’t looking properly at what they were doing. One also said, “Stay off the phone,” implying the driver was on their phone at the time, which is unlikely.
But there were some helpful replies. “It’s ok. The tire is damaged in a spot where it doesn’t matter, and the wheel damage is also just cosmetic,” said one. “It’s a cheap wheel; you can probably buy a replacement one for less than the cost of repair on this one. Or you can just live with it,” they added. The damage does just look cosmetic, so they have likely got away with it. But it will be a warning to them to be a bit more careful next time.
