A man in Columbus, Ohio, is currently recovering after suffering a gunshot wound after he reportedly tried to break up with his girlfriend. Allegedly, the woman shot the man after she tried to run him over with her car. Multiple times.
As reported by 10TV, citing court records, the incident occurred on Sunday, June 7. At around 11:30 a.m., Columbus Division of Police (CDP) officers responded to North High Street.
Upon arrival, officers encountered multiple witnesses. They were all pointing toward a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Teanya Swanson, who had allegedly attempted to hit a man with her silver Kia.
Moments later, as per the witnesses, gunfire was exchanged at a Kroger parking lot. CDP officers began investigating the incident, and soon they came across Swanson, who was transported to a hospital, as well as the man involved.
Hospitalized, The Man Accuses Her Ex
As per the CDP, at around 12:49 p.m., officers located the man on McKinley Avenue. He appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound during the shooting.
The man was also transported to a local hospital. As of Monday, June 8, he remains there in stable condition.
Still, the unnamed man accused Swanson of being the one who shot him. While talking to CDP officers, it was revealed that an altercation and the subsequent shooting were caused by a breakup.
Break Up Goes Terribly Wrong
Court records show the man telling the officers that he was attempting to break up with Swanson. After leaving her home, the 36-year-old allegedly attempted to hit him multiple times.
This continued until they both reached the Kroger’s parking lot. The man reportedly tried to reason with Swanson and de-escalate the situation. Instead, the woman allegedly shot the man in the shoulder.
Then, the man said he responded with self-defense shots directed at the woman’s vehicle, the court records detailed. Video footage, according to police, confirmed what the man revealed to the officer, with him admitting to pulling the trigger.
Arrested and Charged
As a result, Teanya Swanson was arrested. Allegedly, she explained that her vehicle was malfunctioning, which resulted in the man being almost struck multiple times.
Furthermore, the woman admitted to detectives that she had pointed a gun at the man, court records said. However, she wasn’t sure if she had pulled the trigger, later saying that she didn’t want anyone to get hurt, according to the documents.
Swanson is charged with felonious assault. If convicted, she could spend up to eight years behind bars and be ordered to pay $15,000 in fines.
