Residents in Wilmington woke up to a startling sight early Sunday morning after a car crashed into a home and came to rest nearly upright on the front porch, creating a scene that stunned neighbors and first responders alike.
The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. along Pacific Coast Highway near Wilmington Boulevard. Authorities said a silver Scion was traveling westbound when it struck a fence before flipping and becoming wedged vertically against the front steps of a residence.
Images and video from the scene showed the heavily damaged vehicle balanced nose-down against the porch, an unusual outcome that quickly attracted attention across Southern California.
Driver Escapes Wreck Without Major Injuries
Despite the violent nature of the crash, the woman behind the wheel was able to climb out of the wreck on her own. Police said she told investigators that she swerved to avoid another vehicle, causing her to lose control.

Los Angeles Police Department officials said there was no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident. Authorities did not release the driver’s name or age, and no arrests were made.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone inside the home was injured. The residence sustained damage to the fence and front porch, but the structure remained standing.
Emergency crews responded quickly to secure the scene and remove the vehicle.
Witness Describes High-Speed Impact
A nearby resident who witnessed the crash said the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high speed moments before impact.
According to the witness, the car squeezed between a parked vehicle and a utility pole before clipping the corner of a fence and flipping onto the porch. After seeing the crash, the man immediately called 911.
“He hit the corner of the fence here and flipped,” the witness told OnScene.TV. “She got out on her own.”
Neighbors gathered outside as crews worked to assess the damage and investigate what led to the bizarre accident.

Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, though investigators have not indicated that criminal charges are expected.
The strange position of the car, standing nearly vertical against the home, quickly became the focus of videos and photographs shared online. Many viewers expressed amazement that the driver survived and that the house sustained relatively limited damage.
The accident serves as another reminder of the dangers of high-speed driving and how quickly an ordinary stretch of roadway can turn into the scene of a dramatic and potentially deadly incident.
Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation remains ongoing.
