Are you a fan of LEGO, as well as a fan of all things Renault? Well, there is good news: you may soon have a LEGO kit that allows you to build the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, the most expensive Renault ever produced, thanks to a LEGO Ideas kit reaching 10,000 votes.

Around a month ago, a British fan added their idea to the LEGO Ideas portal. This is where fans of the Danish toy can upload their own ideas for kits, which could potentially be reviewed by the LEGO team and eventually make their way into a kit that the public can buy.

This particular LEGO fan decided to create a model version of the production version of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a hot hatchback version of the Renault 5 EV, created as a tribute to the Renault 5 Turbo from the 1980s. With a retail price of $188,500, it is the most expensive Renault vehicle to date.

When an idea is submitted to the LEGO Ideas portal, it can take months, perhaps even longer, for an idea to get 10,000 votes and pass onto the production review stage. Yet this kit somehow reached that milestone in less than two months, meaning we might soon be able to build it ourselves.

How the LEGO set was put together

British engineer Dave Collins put the set together over the course of three months, as a tribute to the all-electric hot hatchback, which some have even called a supercar. The set itself comprises 1,200 small pieces, and when built, the car is roughly at a scale of 1:12 compared to the real thing.

Collins even created the Renault in the same color as the full-size example recently shown off. The engineer also created packing stickers, printed onto an adhesive sheet. Renault itself joined in on the fun, posing the model by Collins alongside and even on the real Renault 5 Turbo 3E.

In fact, Renault has stated that along with the real car, they will be bringing the LEGO model to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, when the Renault will be driven up the famous Goodwood Hillclimb. The festival will be the first time the public will get a chance to see just how fast this hot hatchback is. As the LEGO kit has now had over 10,000 votes, it has passed into the product review stage. It did so after just 44 days, meaning LEGO will now determine whether or not to make this an official set.

Why the Renault 5 Turbo 3E has been so widely applauded

While it is a hot hatchback version of the Renault 5 EV Supermini, the Turbo 3E is in reality wildly different to the standard car. In fact, only the mirrors, door handles and taillights are carried over from the standard car. Renault first took the covers off the car in 2025, with the production version unveiled in March 2026. The Turbo 3E also uses the Alpine Performance Platform that the electric Alpine A110 will use. Renault is limiting production to just 1,980 examples, a nod to the first year in which the original Renault 5 Turbo was produced.

Looking more like a supercar than a hatchback, the electric motors give the car a staggering 533hp. In the UK, the car retails at £140,000, which roughly converts to $188,500 at the current exchange rate. Thanks to all that power, the 0- 60 mph time is an eye-wateringly quick 3.5 seconds, with a top speed of 170mph. At the time of writing, the French manufacturer expects the new EV to be on sale later in 2026, with the car hitting public roads in 2027. By then, you might even be able to build one yourself too, thanks to this brilliant LEGO kit.
