Ramcharger Could Give Ram The V8 SUV Role Jeep Is Leaving Open

Stellantis is preparing one of the largest product offensives in its history. Between now and 2030, the group plans more than 60 new vehicle launches and 50 significant refreshes across its brands and powertrain lineup.

One of the most important projects is a large SUV that could reshape Ram’s future as one of Stellantis’ most important and profitable divisions.

The SUV project is widely expected to revive the Ramcharger name, and it would become Ram’s first SUV as a standalone brand. Its arrival with three rows of seats would mark a major change for a company long associated almost entirely with pickups.

The goal is clear: bring new customers into Ram showrooms, especially buyers who like the brand’s truck image but need the space, comfort, and family practicality of a large SUV.

The new model immediately raises an important question. How will a Ram three-row SUV fit next to the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, a vehicle that shares part of its technical base and already sits inside the same dealer network?

Tim Kuniskis, Ram’s CEO, says the company is developing two very different personalities for these SUVs from the beginning.

The goal is not to create two nearly identical models with different badges. Instead, Ram’s SUV and the Grand Wagoneer are expected to appeal to different buyers through styling, road behavior, cabin attitude, and powertrain choices.

The Grand Wagoneer will continue with turbocharged inline-six engines and is expected to add extended-range EREV technology. Ram’s version is being positioned around a more traditional American formula, with a tougher character and a more V8-focused identity.

V8 Power Could Define The Ramcharger

Engines may become the biggest difference between the two models. Current reporting points to a Ramcharger lineup built around familiar Hemi V8 choices rather than the Grand Wagoneer’s turbocharged six-cylinder strategy.

A 345 cubic inch Hemi V8 would give Ram a natural base performance story, while a stronger 392 cubic inch Hemi V8 would fit the brand’s truck and muscle image even better.

At the top of the range, Ram is also expected to prepare an SRT version. If that model uses the latest supercharged 379 cubic inch Hemi hardware related to the TRX and Hellcat family, output could reach extremely serious numbers. Recent reporting around Stellantis’ newest SRT plans has pointed to as much as 777 HP from that engine family, although Ram has not confirmed a final Ramcharger output.

Technically, Ram could also use a 220 cubic inch V6 or the turbocharged inline-six already found in Jeep models. For now, though, the stronger signal is that Ram wants V8 power to separate its SUV from the Grand Wagoneer as clearly as possible.

Kuniskis believes buyers understand these differences well. He pointed to General Motors, which successfully sells the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade, and to Ford, which offers the Expedition and Lincoln Navigator.

The challenge is that those vehicles are usually sold through separate dealer networks. Ram and Jeep do not have that advantage because their SUVs will stand side by side in many of the same showrooms.

That is why designers and engineers have been asked to create two vehicles with very different identities. The Ramcharger should feel tougher, more truck-like, and more performance focused.

Grand Wagoneer will remain closer to its current luxury formula, with refinement, comfort, premium positioning, and advanced powertrain technology at the center of its appeal. Ram’s job is different. It needs to bring the attitude of the pickup lineup into a three-row SUV without simply copying Jeep’s flagship.

Pricing Should Stay Near Big SUV Rivals

Kuniskis believes the relationship could work like the old Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. Those two cars were technically related, but they attracted very different buyers because their personalities were so different.

There is still no official pricing for the Ramcharger. After the latest Grand Wagoneer update, Jeep’s large luxury SUV starts in the mid-$60,000 range in the U.S., depending on pricing source and configuration.

That places the future Ram SUV near the heart of the full-size three-row SUV market, where buyers already compare vehicles such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Ram will have to be careful. If the Ramcharger is priced too close to the Grand Wagoneer without enough separation, it risks confusing shoppers. If it leans fully into V8 power, truck styling, towing confidence, and an SRT halo model, it could give buyers something Jeep is not trying to be.

With this model, Ram is entering a segment it has never occupied as a standalone brand. A mix of big V8 engines, three-row practicality, premium equipment, and a possible SRT version could give Ram much more than another SUV.

It could give the brand a new American flagship built around the same toughness, power, and attitude that made its pickups successful.
