A man in Boardman, Ohio, is facing multiple charges after he allegedly crashed into a parked SUV at a local car wash. He is accused of driving under the influence, and police said that a vodka bottle, which appeared to be nearly empty.
As reported by WFMJ, the incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 17. Local police were made aware of a crash that had occurred at an automated car wash located on Boardman Canfield Road in Mahoning County.
At the time, a woman, the driver of the SUV, a Subaru, was sitting in the car during a wash cycle in the wash track. Her two children, sitting on child safety seats, were in the backseat.
Suddenly, an unforeseen vehicle struck her SUV from behind. The wash cycle was shut down by employees, and both vehicles remained at the establishment’s parking lot, waiting for the police to arrive.
Accused of DUI

A responding officer approached the other driver, later identified as 61-year-old David Todd Fink. A report shows that the officer saw Fink putting a mint in his mouth.
Immediately, Fink was asked for his driver’s license and insurance information. He, instead, as per the police, said that he wasn’t sure how his car got off the wash track, admitting to bumping into the woman’s Subaru.
Things got more serious then, as the officer allegedly noticed a vodka bottle inside Fink’s sedan, which was apparently almost empty. Fink was also accused of having slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, as well as smelling like alcohol.
Sobriety Tests, Canceled
Fink, meanwhile, insisted that he hadn’t had any drinks that day, police said. He explained the vodka bottle by saying that it belonged to a previous passenger.
Moments later, the 61-year-old man agreed to partake in various field sobriety tests. These were canceled mid-through, police said, as per Fink’s request.
As a result, Fink was placed under arrest. Then, at the Boardman police station, he allegedly refused to provide a breath sample for breath alcohol content testing. His driver’s license was immediately suspended.
Suspect Charged and Released
David Todd Fink was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and failing to control his vehicle. If convicted of the former, he could spend up to 6 months behind bars, depending on whether this was his first offense.
Additionally, Fink was hit with two citations. These include, WFMJ reported, operating a vehicle under the influence with a refusal to submit to testing within 20 years. The other citation was not specified.
Fink was released into a friend’s care shortly after his arrest. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 16.
