A 21-year old woman was arrested on May 22 after she drove her car into a pond. However, she didn’t tell the police about it; they found it later after being notified of an incident involving a car and a pond.
By the time police officers arrived on the scene, the driver had already left and gone home. A dive team had to be called to help recover the vehicle from the water.
Fortunately, it wasn’t long after the car was found that the driver was taken into custody.
How was she caught?
She posted to Snapchat that she had driven a car off into a pond when she was driving home the night before. However, after the incident, it was claimed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.
Woman Drives Car Into Pond and Leaves
The Knox County Dive team was in charge of the vehicle’s recovery. Eventually, they were able to get hooks around the car so that tow truck drivers could pull it out.
The black vehicle was registered to 21-year-old Hannah Holt of Vincennes, Indiana. While the car was still being pulled out, she arrived on scene to confess to deputies what had happened.
It is unclear how exactly she was able to remove herself from the vehicle when the incident happened. It is also unclear if there were any other passengers in the vehicle at the time.
Police Find and Arrest Suspect
After the confession, Holt was taken into custody to the Knox County Jail. Here, she was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
If convicted of the offense, then Holt can face up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. There is also the possibility that her license gets suspended, depending on whether she has anything else on her driving record.
According to the hashtag #DontDriveDrunk under the post, alcohol was suggested to have been involved. However, this was combated in the comments on a Facebook post concerning the incident.
Reactions to Woman Abandoning Car in Pond
In the comments of the post, Holt explains that alcohol was not a factor in the incident. She writes, “i am okay! everyone i was with is fine ! either way id be in the situation bc i wrecked my car. i had left the bar 2 hours prior to me wrecking. i was on my phone & swerved into the pond. me wrecking had nothing to do w alcohol. my baby is fine im fine. that’s all that matters.”
To avoid further issues within the comments section, Knoc County Sheriff’s Office stepped in, writing, “Before someone says something they shouldn’t we are turning off comments on this post.”
As always, all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The arrest records and information published about the incident are not an indication of guilt or evidence of a crime.
