A police officer in Jackson, Mississippi, faces disciplinary action after a circulating video allegedly showed them performing stunt maneuvers with a patrol car on the west side of the city. The police chief has publicly criticized her officer’s alleged behavior.

As reported by WAPT, the incident took place during the night of Sunday, May 17, at the CSL Plasma parking lot located on Northiside Drive in west Jackson.

The video shared by WAPT shows a marked Jackson Police Department (JPD) cruiser performing a stunt maneuver referred to as “half donuts.” People in the parking lot are seen reacting to the cops’ alleged driving skills with enthusiasm.

Quickly, the clip started to circulate online. Eventually, the word spread and reached Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney, who was flabbergasted, to say the least.

Police Chief Reacts

Chief Brackney spoke with WAPT after learning of her officer’s alleged night cruiser stunts on Monday morning. She heavily criticized her officer, calling the incident unacceptable and taking matters into her own hands.

“To see one of our officers in a marked unit participating in that behavior, showing a lack of judgment…” she said. “I have to own the fact that it is one of our officers who did engage with that. And in owning that, that officer will be held responsible.”

Case Under Review, Disciplinary Action Contemplated

Accountability started as early as 9 a.m. on Monday, May 18. According to Chief Brackney, she summoned the JPD leadership to review the incident and address driving complaints in general in the city of Jackson.

Furthermore, the chief asked citizens not to engage in reckless driving behavior motivated by the officer’s alleged actions behind the wheel.

“I am holding my officers to the same standard,” Chief Brackney said. “They were out there doing that. Don’t think that is license for the community to continue to behave in that [way].”

An investigation into the unnamed officer is ongoing, the JPD detailed. Department police will determine what disciplinary action the officer will face.

Similar Recent Case

Most recently, a Florida police officer in Homestead was embroiled in similar trouble after allegedly becoming involved in a street racing incident.

As previously reported, an unnamed officer, who had reportedly pulled over a Dodge Challenger driver for doing donuts, allegedly told the driver, “Wanna run it?”

Video shared on Instagram by dadesocial shows the marked cruiser speeding ahead, with the Challenger following shortly after.

The Homestead Police Department (HPD) is currently investigating the incident through an internal affairs probe. An HPD spokesperson confirmed to media outlets that, should the police officer be found at fault, he will “pay for it.”
