A total of four juveniles have been arrested in Aurora, Colorado, after they allegedly took part in an armed carjacking. Reportedly, all suspects were eventually taken into custody after a motel standoff, which had a SWAT Team involved.

As reported by Sentinel Colorado, the alleged carjacking took place on Wednesday, March 12. Aurora Police Deputy Chief Michael Gaskill detailed that a man had reported his car stolen. According to him, four armed individuals assaulted him before taking his car. He narrowly avoided any injuries, as the suspects were accused of opening fire at him, missing him completely. Aurora police added that two of the suspects left in the victim’s car, while two others left in a gray Audi.

The very next day, Aurora Police Department (APD) officers spotted the gray Audi at Wolf’s Motor Inn, a motel located on E. Colfax Avenue. While officers surveyed the vehicle, two of the juvenile suspects approached the car. Quickly noticing the police presence, both individuals decided to run, to no avail. Both of them were quickly detained shortly after the officer caught up to them.

During the chase, police officers recovered a gun, and then found that the two remaining juveniles had barricaded themselves inside the motel.

Juvenile Barricade, Suspects Arrested

Given the situation, multiple APD units, including the department’s SWAT Team, responded to the hotel, the APD shared on X. Negotiators were on scene and attempted to make contact with the barricaded juveniles inside the motel.

Deputy Chief Gaskill detailed that, eventually, the two juveniles left their motel rooms alongside an adult woman and surrendered themselves. In total, five individuals were detained, but it is unknown if the adult woman was connected to the carjacking incident.

Due to the suspects’ ages, none of them has been named. The stolen vehicle was recovered, and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

Second Standoff in a Week

This incident comes shortly after another similar standoff involving another juvenile in Aurora. As reported by Denver7, a 17-year-old boy was accused of stealing his mother’s car and driving erratically at the Cherokee Trail High School parking lot. Furthermore, he allegedly slashed the tire of a parent who was dropping off their child.

The mother then contacted Aurora police, saying that her son was throwing things out the window at the E. Easter Drive apartment complex. An hours-long standoff ensued, where the teenager allegedly threw what officers believed were “Molotov cocktails.”

Eventually, the teenager came out of the apartment without incident and was arrested. He faces multiple charges, including unlawful display of a weapon on school grounds, items related to hit-and-run, criminal mischief, and reckless driving.
