Jay Leno Is Giving Away a $70,000 Corvette on Wheel of Fortune and Honestly, We Want In

Jay Leno has given the world plenty of reasons to be jealous of his garage. Now, he’s giving one lucky person a reason to build their own. The 76-year-old comedian, television personality, and legendary car collector stopped by Wheel of Fortune this week to announce he is donating a brand-new 2026 Chevrolet Corvette C8, valued at approximately $70,000, as the grand prize for the show’s Big Money Week tournament.

The announcement aired during the Monday, May 11 episode, with Leno appearing alongside co-host Vanna White in a pre-taped segment. He also arrived to the set in a classic Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z, which is honestly the kind of entrance that makes everyone else’s grand arrival look a little sad by comparison.

Five contestants who win their respective episodes throughout the week will return on Friday, May 15, for a bonus round face-off. The winner of that round will receive the Corvette through a blind draw, meaning at least one person is walking away with something a lot better than a gift card and a handshake.

When Vanna asked why he chose to donate such an impressive vehicle, Leno kept it simple. He told her they already know he is a car enthusiast, so naturally he was going to give away a cool car. And cool is an understatement for a machine that puts out serious horsepower at a price point that makes European sports car makers very uncomfortable.

Why Jay Leno and Corvettes Are Basically a Love Story

Leno’s affection for the Corvette is well-documented and goes well beyond casual appreciation. In a 2019 interview with Fox News, he made the case for the American muscle car with characteristic enthusiasm, pointing out that the Corvette ZR1 delivers around 755 horsepower for roughly a third of the cost of a Ferrari or Lamborghini. His other selling point: since it is a Chevy, you can fix problems with a hammer. Try that with a Lambo.

His “Jay Leno’s Garage” series on YouTube has become a love letter to rare, exotic, and historically significant vehicles from his personal collection, which is so large it requires airline hangars for storage. This is not a man with a two-car garage and a dream. This is a man with a logistical operation.

This Wheel of Fortune giveaway is also not his first Corvette rodeo of 2025. Back in March, Leno partnered with Yaamava’ Resort and Casino to give away a red 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 in honor of the casino’s 40th anniversary. He described the ZR1 as “the big dog,” citing its twin-turbo power and its ability to make grown adults giggle on first acceleration. At this rate, Leno is singlehandedly keeping Corvette on everyone’s radar.

The Show Itself Has a Long History of Giving Away Cars

Wheel of Fortune is no stranger to handing over keys. According to the show’s 2024 data, it has given away nearly 600 cars across 41 seasons. Combined with cash and other prizes, the show has distributed more than $324 million in total winnings over its run. That is a staggering number, and it explains why contestants tend to lose their composure in the most relatable way possible when they hear that winning ding.

Big Money Week kicked off Monday when Petal Reddick, an attorney from Ashburn, Virginia, solved the first toss-up puzzle and walked away with $11,700 in winnings. Four more contestants will follow throughout the week before the Friday finale determines who gets to drive home in Leno’s Corvette.

What This Whole Story Teaches Us About Jay Leno

There is a version of this story where a guy with one of the most famous car collections on earth hoards every last vehicle and never looks back. Leno is not that guy, and this week is a good reminder of that. His willingness to part with vehicles he genuinely loves, whether through charity partnerships or national television giveaways, reflects a philosophy that cars are meant to be driven, appreciated, and yes, occasionally handed off to someone who could use a really great day.

It is also worth noting that Leno has had his own complicated relationship with cars beyond the thrill of ownership. In November 2022, he suffered serious burns to his face, hands, and arms after a gasoline fire broke out while he was working in his garage on a 1907 White Steam Car. The recovery was significant enough that he described his post-surgery face as “brand new” during a TV appearance months later. The incident did nothing to dim his enthusiasm for automobiles, which says everything you need to know about the depth of his passion.

The Wheel of Fortune Big Money Week finale airs Friday, May 15. One contestant will solve a puzzle. Another will win a Corvette. Everyone watching from their couch will feel slightly complicated emotions about both outcomes.
