If this story feels like it was cooked up by a caffeine-fueled marketing team during a weekend workshop, we understand. That’s what happens when a San Francisco coffee roaster takes the idea of pimp my brew to extremes that would make even the most extravagant coffee snob blush.
Instead of settling for the usual “gold trim” or “limited edition” coffee machine, the founders of Graffeo Coffee decided the only appropriate move was to turn a vintage Ferrari into a fully operable café on wheels. And yes, that includes a top-tier espresso rig sitting right beside a roaring 3.0-liter V8 engine under the trunk lid.
Zero to Espresso in 3.0 Liters
This wonderfully bizarre project reportedly began as an office joke. Legend has it that Walter Haas, the new owner of San Francisco’s oldest coffee roaster, stumbled across stacks of classic car magazines in the company’s back office.

Some creative chatter ensued about what it might look like to serve espresso out of a Ferrari, and before anyone could say “ristretto,” the joke had turned into a full-blown engineering odyssey. Instead of a simple paint job or decal wrap, the team went all-in, purchasing a 1984 Ferrari 308 Rosso Corsa and handing it over to Church of the Air Cooled, a shop best known for its painstaking Porsche restorations.
The result is part automotive art, part mobile café, and (for the right crowd) possibly the most outrageous coffee machine on planet Earth. The classic Ferrari — beloved by car collectors and enthusiasts around the world — now hides a commercial-grade espresso setup in its rear trunk.

Pump systems, water tanks up front, and electrical hookups were installed so the vehicle can brew shots just like a tiny Italian espresso bar. The entire system is integrated into the Ferrari’s original electrical grid, meaning that yes, you can fire up the engine and pull a shot in the same breath.
The world first saw this beast at Concorso Italiano. It’s an annual Monterey Car Week event celebrating Italian automotive heritage. It didn’t take long for the Ferrari-cum-café to become a social media magnet. Crowds gathered around while phones flashed and baristas in stylish aprons pulled shots beside the V8’s gleaming red bodywork. Celebrities, race fans, and espresso lovers snapped photos and queued for the novelty.
The high-octane aroma of espresso mixed with petrol fumes became an oddly compelling perfume for fans of bespoke engineering.
The New Bar for “Over the Top”

Early reactions were exactly what you’d expect from this kind of spectacle. NASCAR VIPs stopped by with amused grins, local sports stars posed beside it, and wedding planners began to imagine it serving espresso at high-end receptions, complete with branded cups and custom-printed napkins. People joked about what might come next. Perhaps a grinder mounted on a vintage Vespa or an espresso press built into a luxury yacht’s tender.
Of course, all this begs the question: what exactly qualifies as a coffee machine? Traditionally, a coffee machine is the appliance on your kitchen counter churning out your morning espresso, frothing milk for lattes, or steaming water for a comforting Americano.

Some machines can cost thousands of dollars and are judged on precision, heat stability, and barista-level quality. But modifying a beloved sports car into a mobile café might just redefine premium for a certain kind of coffee lover. It might even challenge what counts as the world’s most expensive coffee machine.
At the very least, this Ferrari espresso marvel proves passion and creativity (whether for cars or coffee) can collide in ways that are equal parts absurd and awe-inspiring. So, the next time someone suggests your coffee ritual is a little over the top, show them this article and remind them that somewhere out there is a Ferrari serving shots right next to its own engine. Now that’s something worth queuing for.
