An 85-year-old man in Leesburg, Florida, is facing multiple charges after he was allegedly caught street racing alongside another suspect. When a police officer approached him, he said that he was having a “little ride,” police said.

As reported by FOX 35 Orlando, the incident occurred on Friday, June 12, 2026. At around 11:40 p.m., a deputy with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) observed two vehicles in an apparent street racing rendezvous.

On U.S. Highway 27 and County Road 33, the deputy used a radar to clock the speed of a red Corvette and a gray sports car. The Corvette, as per the LCSO, was traveling at 125 mph. Meanwhile, the gray Nissan sports car was allegedly speeding at 110 mph.

Since both vehicles were traveling in a 45 mph zone, the deputy acted. After activating his emergency lights, he pulled over the Nissan, and the man behind the wheel was unconventional, to say the least.

Elderly Man Caught Speeding, LCSO Says

As reported by WKMG, the Nissan was stopped on Highway 27, north of County Road 48. The driver was identified as William Bosworth, who is 85 years old.

When the deputy confronted the elderly, he reportedly denied that he had been speeding. Instead, he explained, as per the LCSO, that the other driver had swerved at him. This, according to him, would explain his speed.

“I wanted to get away from him before we caused a problem,” Bosworth said, as per an arrest affidavit cited by FOX 35. Then, he said that he was “having a little ride in my favorite car.”

Second Suspect Pulled Over

The second suspect, who was behind the Corvette’s wheel, was identified as 57-year-old Philip Signorino. As per the LCSO, he was driving his vehicle at a whopping 125 mph.

His vehicle was pulled over on Highway 27, south of Country Road 48. Just like Bosworth, he also denied street racing, arguing that his Corvette couldn’t reach speeds that fast.

Footage shared by WKMG showed a very relaxed Signorino smoking a cigarette. He also asked the deputy to calm down after he yelled at him to get out of his vehicle.

Arrested and Charged

Both men, the alleged speed racing opponents, were placed under arrest. Even though they denied knowing each other, they were charged with racing on a highway and with dangerous, excessive speeding.

If convicted of the racing charge, the men could face a year behind bars, as long as it is their first offense. Otherwise, repeat offenders could be sentenced to five years in prison.

Furthermore, once in jail, one officer talked to Signorino and asked him which car he had been driving. The man allegedly responded, “The one that won. The Corvette.”
