A woman accused of stealing a pickup at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington had no interest in cooperating with police. She made it clear twice before K9 Rex had enough of the situation.
According to the Moses Lake Police Department, on Sept. 27, deputies working at the Gorge received a report of a female stealing a pickup from the parking area.
An MLPD officer who was working an overtime shift at the Gorge located the stolen pickup a short time later. The police department said the vehicle was high-centered, and the officer saw the woman getting out of it.
The officer called out to her, but instead of listening, the woman flipped him off and ran toward a nearby residence. Police say a canal separated the officer from the suspect, giving the woman a head start.
Somewhere Else To Hide
Police identified the woman as 41-year-old Sarah Poole of Surrey, British Columbia.
MLPD says Poole broke into a trailer on the property after fleeing from the stolen pickup. Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene, found her inside the trailer, and ordered her to come out.
She did not.
Poole once again flipped off the deputies from inside the trailer and had zero interest in complying with them.
By then, MLPD says Officer Zook had arrived with his K9 Rex, ready to bring this situation to an end.
K9 Rex Isn’t Playing Around
K9 Rex wasn’t playing around. Officers allowed Rex to enter the trailer, where he bit Poole and took her into custody.
Poole suffered minor injuries from the dog bite and was treated before being booked into the Grant County Jail.
Booking information shows she was booked on charges of theft of a motor vehicle, attempted residential burglary, resisting arrest, first-degree criminal trespass, and second-degree vehicle prowling.
She was booked on Sept. 27 and released on Sept. 28. The available information did not list her bond or any scheduled court dates.
The Gorge and Rex
The Gorge Amphitheatre is an outdoor concert venue in Washington that hosts major concerts and festivals throughout the year, drawing thousands of people to the area.
MLPD noted that large events held at the Gorge require additional law enforcement coverage, which is why off-duty officers from outside agencies work overtime shifts at the venue.
Live Nation, which operates the Gorge, reimburses the costs associated with those shifts, including overtime, benefits, and vehicle usage. MLPD says the arrangement means the City of Moses Lake does not lose coverage or incur a financial cost as a result.
In the end, Poole was booked into jail, the stolen pickup was recovered, and K9 Rex got a treat and some belly rubs for his good work.
As always, Poole is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
