A Tesla owner who survived what her local owners club described as a devastating head-on collision is crediting her Model Y with helping save her life.

The crash happened in June, according to a follow-up from the Denver Tesla Club, which recently shared the story of a club member named Brittany. The group said the other driver was allegedly traveling over 84 mph while attempting an illegal pass.

Brittany survived with what the club described as a few fractures and tears and was able to get herself out of the Model Y after the collision. In a follow-up reply, the club said the other driver died.

The club did not identify the responding police agency or provide a crash report with its post. Its account of the speed, attempted pass, injuries and fatality has not been independently confirmed.

Back To Tesla

Brittany credits the Model Y’s safety engineering with helping her survive the crash, according to the club.

The Denver Tesla Club went further, describing the wreck as “another life saved by Tesla.” That conclusion comes from the club, however, and the post does not establish which specific vehicle features affected the outcome of the collision.

What Brittany did afterward made her own view fairly clear: the club said she immediately replaced the wrecked Model Y with another Model Y.

Wreck Draws Questions

Images accompanying the post show extensive damage to the Tesla, prompting commenters to speculate about airbags, the source of an apparent fire, and how Brittany managed to get out.

Those theories remain just that. The post does not provide enough information to establish the source of the fire or determine what role individual safety systems played during the crash.

For Brittany, though, the experience apparently did not shake her confidence in the vehicle. Her replacement was another Model Y.
