The Fast and the Furious and Pixar’s Cars don’t have much in common beyond an obvious obsession with automobiles. One gave us street racing, tuner culture, and increasingly ridiculous stunts, while the other made an entire generation emotionally attached to an animated Porsche.
FIA WEC has somehow found a way to bring the two worlds together. Better yet, it enlisted a Le Mans-winning Toyota to play the starring role.
The championship has released a short film created with Toyota that follows the No. 7 TR010 Hybrid on its journey home to Japan. The very same car won the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
The nighttime sequence borrows imagery familiar from both Pixar’s “Cars” and the first F&F movie. A group of modified Toyotas surrounds a truck carrying the TR010, recalling the blacked-out tuner cars chasing a semi in the opening of The Fast and the Furious, while the whole setup also bears an uncanny resemblance to the modified cars surrounding Mack on the highway in Pixar’s Cars.
Lightning McQueen Would Recognize This
In Cars, a group of modified tuner cars surrounds Lightning McQueen’s transporter, Mack, on the highway. Their antics eventually help send a sleeping Mack and McQueen’s journey very badly off course.
The WEC version is considerably friendlier. Four modified Toyotas escort the enclosed TR010 through the night, with shots emphasizing Japanese tuning culture as the Le Mans winner makes its way toward Toyota’s home circuit.
FIA WEC even captioned its video “The fast and the… car which won Le Mans,” throwing another famous automotive movie franchise into the mix. Whether Cars was officially the inspiration or not, anyone familiar with Pixar’s highway scene will probably spot the similarities.
This Toyota Earned Its Homecoming
The No. 7 TR010 Hybrid has a good reason to receive the celebrity treatment. Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries drove it to overall victory at the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, securing Toyota’s sixth win at the legendary endurance race.
It wasn’t an easy victory, either. The No. 7 started 14th in the Hypercar field and eventually emerged from a four-car fight involving its sister Toyota, Cadillac and BMW, winning by just 10.913 seconds.
That result returned Toyota to the top step at Le Mans for the first time in four years. The winning TR010 is now being brought to Fuji as part of the festivities surrounding Toyota’s home WEC round.
Toyota Still Has A Championship To Win
While the actual Le Mans-winning car enjoys its homecoming, two TR010 Hybrids remain very much in competition. Toyota enters the 6 Hours of Fuji leading the manufacturers’ championship with 140 points, nine ahead of BMW on 131.
The No. 7 crew is also tied at the top of the drivers’ standings heading into the weekend. Fuji has historically been particularly kind to Toyota, which has won nine of the 12 WEC races previously held at the circuit.
Pixar’s version ended with Lightning McQueen getting lost on his way to California. Fortunately for Toyota, this transporter appears to have Fuji Speedway firmly programmed into the navigation.
