Few movie cars are as wonderfully scruffy as the Bluesmobile. The battered former police cruiser became an unlikely automotive icon thanks to The Blues Brothers, surviving the kind of chaotic driving that would make even the most ambitious Hollywood stunt coordinator nervous.
Now, Jake and Elwood Blues could potentially bring their “mission from God” into the Lego world. A fan-created Lego Ideas project recreates the Bluesmobile alongside the two black-suited, sunglasses-wearing brothers.
Submitted by Lego Ideas creator vintagelover, the proposed set contains 442 pieces and 19 printed elements. It’s small enough to display easily while still packing in several recognizable details from the movie.
There is one important catch: this isn’t an official Lego set yet. The project needs enough community support to progress through the Lego Ideas process before the company will consider whether it deserves a place on store shelves.
The Bluesmobile Gets The Lego Treatment
The original movie’s Bluesmobile was a 1974 Dodge Monaco police car purchased by Elwood after Jake’s release from prison. It became central to the 1980 film’s increasingly outrageous car chases as the brothers attempted to reunite their band and raise money to save their childhood orphanage.
The Lego interpretation captures the car’s distinctive black-and-white appearance in a compact brick-built package. It functions as a push car and has enough interior space for four minifigures.
There’s even hidden storage behind the seats for accessories. Sadly, the proposed model doesn’t appear to recreate the Bluesmobile’s famously chaotic mechanical abilities, so you’ll have to supply your own miniature police car pileup.
Jake And Elwood Are Included
Naturally, a Bluesmobile wouldn’t be complete without the Blues Brothers themselves. The proposal includes exclusive Jake and Elwood minifigures, complete with their trademark black suits, hats, and sunglasses.
A separate display stand lets the pair pose alongside the car when they aren’t sitting inside it. Combined with the numerous printed pieces, the project clearly aims to work as a display model as much as a toy.
It Still Needs Your Support
According to its Lego Ideas page, the Bluesmobile project is currently working its way through the platform’s supporter milestones. Lego Ideas projects ultimately need 10,000 supporters to reach the review stage, where Lego evaluates whether they could become official products.
Reaching that number doesn’t guarantee production, since licensing, design feasibility, and other considerations still have to be addressed. For now, this remains an enthusiast’s proposal rather than something Lego has announced for sale.
Still, a brick-built Bluesmobile with Jake and Elwood feels almost suspiciously appropriate. If the project eventually becomes official, Lego fans may finally be able to recreate a mission from God without destroying half of Chicago in the process.
