A white car repeatedly rams another vehicle in an Oklahoma parking lot before the confrontation shifts into something more dangerous: a man running on foot as the driver circles back toward him.

The security video shared by Fox News shows the Sept. 23 encounter in Ponca City, where police said a hit-and-run escalated into an attempt to run over the man whose vehicle had been struck.

Officers arrived as the situation was still unfolding. According to a Kay NewsCow account of the police report, the driver sped through people who had gathered to check on the man, refused to stop and continued after him as he ran around the area.

The chase finally ended when someone else watching it unfold decided to use another vehicle to stop hers.

Police responded shortly after 9 a.m. to the area of North 14th Street after receiving reports of a hit-and-run. The male driver’s vehicle was left facing north in the southbound lanes when officers reached the scene, Kay NewsCow reported.

Police identified the other driver as Ruth Ann Harper, 61.

Harper drove from the grass near the roadway and toward the man, then passed through a group of people who had been checking on him, according to the police account published by Ponca City News.

Another officer arrived and attempted to stop Harper, but police said she continued accelerating as the man ran from her.

Someone Intervenes

Harper was closing in while the man was near one of the officers when a bystander who had been watching the encounter struck her car with his own vehicle, police said.

That impact brought the pursuit to an end.

Officers surrounded Harper’s car and took her into custody. The man was not injured.

Police said Harper and the man had been in a dating relationship that recently ended.

Harper was arrested on preliminary complaints of multiple counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, with police saying at the time that additional complaints could follow. A Sept. 29 report from WISN said criminal charges stemming from the incident had not yet been filed.
