Mitsubishi continues to build anticipation for the return of one of its most iconic nameplates. While the all-new Pajero remains under wraps ahead of its expected debut later this year, the automaker is gradually revealing details that suggest the legendary SUV is staying true to its off-road heritage.

The latest teaser doesn’t reveal much about the SUV’s exterior styling or powertrain. Instead, Mitsubishi is highlighting a feature designed specifically for drivers who venture beyond paved roads.

At the center of the announcement is a new digital Multi Meter display, a modern interpretation of a feature that became synonymous with previous generations of the Pajero. Rather than serving as a novelty, the display is intended to provide useful information when tackling difficult terrain.

The announcement reinforces growing expectations that the next-generation Pajero will prioritize genuine off-road capability instead of following the trend toward road-focused family SUVs.

A Modern Take On A Pajero Classic

Long-time Pajero enthusiasts will remember the original triple-gauge display found in earlier generations. Those analog gauges became a signature feature, providing off-road information that many owners relied on during trail adventures.

The new version replaces those traditional instruments with a fully digital Multi Meter display capable of showing a wide range of real-time vehicle data. Mitsubishi says the system has been designed specifically for demanding off-road environments and varying weather conditions.

Among the available information are altitude, compass heading, outside temperature, vehicle pitch and roll angles, and torque distribution between the left and right sides. That data can help drivers better understand how the vehicle is responding to changing terrain while navigating steep climbs, uneven surfaces, rocky trails, or muddy conditions.

Rather than relying solely on driver instinct, the display offers immediate feedback that can make difficult off-road situations easier to manage.

Designed For Adventure

Mitsubishi also released a short teaser video demonstrating the evolution of the Multi Meter through several generations of the Pajero. The company presents the feature as part of the SUV’s long-standing reputation for serious off-road capability rather than simply another digital display.

While Mitsubishi continues to keep technical specifications under wraps, each teaser appears to reinforce the message that the new Pajero is being engineered as a proper four-wheel-drive vehicle. Previous reports have also suggested the SUV will return with body-on-frame construction, further strengthening its off-road credentials.

That would mark a welcome return for a model that built its reputation on tackling some of the world’s toughest terrain, from international rally events to remote overland expeditions.

Part Of Mitsubishi’s Growing SUV Strategy

The Multi Meter isn’t exclusive to the upcoming Pajero. Mitsubishi has already introduced similar digital off-road displays in newer models, including the Destinator SUV, where it provides many of the same vehicle and terrain readouts.

Some versions of the compact XForce also feature a Multi Meter display, fueling speculation that Mitsubishi could eventually revive the smaller Pajero iO nameplate. While the company has not confirmed those rumors, adding off-road-focused technology across multiple models suggests Mitsubishi is placing renewed emphasis on adventure-oriented SUVs.

For now, however, attention remains firmly on the flagship Pajero. Although plenty of questions remain about its engines, drivetrain, and final design, Mitsubishi’s latest teaser makes one thing clear: the company wants the next Pajero to be remembered for genuine capability, not just rugged styling.

If the finished product delivers on that promise, the legendary SUV could once again become a serious contender among buyers looking for a true off-road vehicle rather than another crossover wearing adventure-inspired styling.
