There are plenty of reasons police stop someone for driving more than 100 mph. Most people expect a speeding ticket, maybe a reckless driving charge, and a very expensive insurance bill.
What they don’t usually expect is for the traffic stop to turn into a firearms investigation. According to the California Highway Patrol, that’s exactly what happened during an early morning stop in Solano County.
A Mazda SUV was allegedly traveling more than 105 mph when officers pulled it over. By the time the stop was over, deputies had recovered three loaded firearms and arrested all five people inside the vehicle.
It’s another reminder that routine traffic enforcement often uncovers much more than drivers bargained for. Sometimes, a speeding stop ends up revealing crimes that have nothing to do with speed at all.
Three Loaded Guns Changed the Entire Traffic Stop

The incident happened on July 3 at about 1 am, and is taken from the perspective of a patrol dashcam. You can see the officer trying to chase the driver of the vehicle he has been pursuing for quite some time.
It takes a bit of time, but when the officers do finally catch up, they realize that this is going to be so much more than your average traffic stop. During the stop, officers found three loaded, unregistered firearms, including one concealed in a passenger’s waistband and another in the vehicle.
Honestly, it looks like one of the passengers is wearing some mask to obscure his face, so I would have pulled him over for that alone. If you could believe it, there were five people inside the car, and all five of them were arrested.
Chp Says Speeding Stops Can Uncover Much Bigger Crimes
The officers who posted the arrest on Instagram originally wanted to use the incident as a cautionary tale concerning what could happen if you choose to speed.
There is a portion of the post itself that reads, “Traffic enforcement is about much more than speeding citations. Every stop has the potential to uncover dangerous criminal activity and helps make our communities safer.”
As with all criminal cases, the suspect is considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
