Few American muscle cars command attention quite like the 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda. With its aggressive styling, legendary 426 Hemi V8, and limited production numbers, it’s one of the most desirable machines to emerge from Detroit’s golden era.

We’ve found an example that’s preparing to cross the auction block. Finished in its original TorRed color and equipped with an automatic transmission, this 1970 Hemi ‘Cuda will be offered at Mecum’s Las Vegas auction on November 14, 2026.

Interestingly, this isn’t the car’s first appearance at a major auction. According to Autoevolution, it previously sold for $247,500 at a Russo and Steele event in Scottsdale, Arizona, back in January 2015.

Whether it can achieve a similar result more than a decade later remains to be seen. Its rarity and desirable factory equipment certainly make it interesting, although there are some questions surrounding its originality.

A Rare 426 Hemi With Serious Performance

Under the hood sits Chrysler’s legendary 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, factory-rated at 425 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered through a three-speed TorqueFlite 727 automatic transmission.

According to Mecum, Plymouth built just 652 Hemi ‘Cuda hardtops for the 1970 model year, with only 368 equipped with the automatic transmission. This particular example also features the desirable Super Performance Axle Package, which includes a Dana 60 rear differential with aggressive 4.10 gearing.

Other notable equipment includes a functional Shaker hood, power front disc brakes, factory Rallye gauges, and a tachometer. The black rear accent stripe with Hemi lettering completes its unmistakable muscle-car appearance.

Original Interior, Repainted Exterior

Mecum states that the car has received one repaint in its original TorRed color and still has most of its original sheet metal. Its black bucket-seat interior is original, complete with a center console and factory instrumentation.

The auction listing also mentions the original VIN and fender tags, although it doesn’t explicitly confirm whether the Hemi engine is numbers-matching. That distinction could matter significantly to collectors evaluating a six-figure muscle car.

The odometer currently displays approximately 31,300 miles, but Mecum makes no claim that this represents the vehicle’s actual lifetime mileage. Buyers will therefore need to assess the available documentation before drawing conclusions about its history.

Can It Beat Its 2015 Auction Price?

This Hemi ‘Cuda sold for $225,000 before fees at Russo and Steele’s Scottsdale auction in January 2015. Including the buyer’s premium, the final amount reached $247,500.

Now, the same car is scheduled to cross the block at Mecum Las Vegas on Saturday, November 14, 2026. No confirmed sale price is available yet, making its upcoming result particularly interesting.

With its rare Hemi powertrain, aggressive 4.10 rear gearing, and eye-catching TorRed finish, the Plymouth has plenty working in its favor. Whether bidders value those qualities enough to surpass its previous sale price will only be known once the hammer falls.
